Have also posted this in CM chat too. Ihave a Vauxhall Zafira, love it, but am thinking of swapping to one of these. Would like all opinions good and bad please, if I get one will be a diesel, petrol engine way too big for round town stuff, i may be a girlie but understand cars a good bit, so please all advice will be gratefully received TIA

i'm in north america. i'm very familiar with the voyager.

i'll make it brief :

you def want the "grand" extended one. you'll only be disappointed with the shorter version (if they even still make it)

you want diesel. I've got GM's version of this and I only get about 28 MPG, the voyager gets less, expect around 22 to 25 MPG.

Its a big car in the UK but once you get used to it, it'll be fine. it's still smaller than pretty much any 'white van man' type of utility vehicle.

over here, it's a little more reliable than some of the other manufacturer's ones.

Have you considered the KIA mini-van? Apparently very reliable, not quite as nice looking though.

The KIA one has a 2 part seat for the back row, which looks uncomfortable for litle bottoms, and big ones!!!! Thanks for the info, yes it would defo be the Grand Voyager more leg room and shopping bag room!!!! Thanks again

Thanks - yes it has all the whistles and bells, I have noticed that, main ones being tinted windows and running boards, so little ones can scramble in and not wreck 16 sun blinds in 2 months of summer Thanks for the info

Someone will come on in a minute and tell you about it's NCAP safety rating (it didn't come out that favourably wrt driver).

Anyway, I have Grand Voyager and love it, love it, love it.

We have a top of the range one so it's got all the 'toys'. We holiday in UK a lot so it's brilliant for that - the DVD player is fabbo for the kids. There is just tons of room in the car and in the boot. There are not many cars that have such a lot of room in the car AND the boot with 7 seats in.

I've got a petrol, automatic. Should have got diesel - it drinks for England but hey ho.

The seats are fabulously comfy - like big arm chairs.

Very handy for carrying other kids too - I have 3 of my own and often am bringing friends with me and it means they are all strapped in safely with an appropriate car seat.

I don't find it hard to park or anything (though parking sensors help!), it doesn't feel that big when you are driving it.

A few people on here say they've had loads of problems with theirs and wouldn't buy another but I've never had an issue with mine (touch wood!).

Anything else you want to know?

There was a thread on this somewhere about all the techincal faults people have found with their Voyagers. "Which" also declared it as a "Don't Buy" because iirc it performed so badly in their tests.

Hey, Alan Sugar has his Apprentice candidates driven round in them - surely Sir Alan can't be wrong?!

They are everywhere around here - loads of people have them and seem pretty happy with them. Plenty of others are hankering after one.

Do your research and make up your own mind, but I'm perfectly happy with mine.

I'm not trying to put anyone off, just giving some other points of view.

theres a big thing to remember here though. sorry to be miserable.

its an american domestic car and they are simply less reliable. its a shame. they've got all the great things you want from the car but there is no way they are even close to the same build quality as a VW, BMW, Merc, Honda, Toyota or any other high japanese, german car.

don't get me wrong. i love my pontiac montana but it is half the price of honda's equivelent over here and there is good reason.

This is all good stuff, its great to hear all your opinions, not worried about parking etc, have driven other bigger people carriers before, will take a look at the which site, had a Galaxy before and everyone slates them but I liked it, so i guess in the end gotta take a risk, if I decide its for me. My other choice is new shape Fiat Ulysee/Citroen C8/Peugeot 807, like that cos it has electric doors, would belooking at 2.0 diesel with that one and would like the 8 seater as I am a childminder, but boot space not as good as Grand Voyager - thanks again for all your help,

I read somewhere that it is best to buy them second hand, I guess their value is better that way as opposed to new where they might be comparatively expensive. Generally they get good reviews.
See if Dear John has anything to say on the Daily Telegraph website.
