Will be interested to hear ... have just got rid of (well, written off ...) a Volvo XC90 and now looking at the A6. Can't help thinking they're a bit "classier" than BMWs?!

I personally prefer the Audi, but I am a classy girl

Lordy, I do sound poncey, don't I??!! I've just got a thing against BMW's 'cos my very wide BIL (very stripey suits and flash gear!) had one and he put me off!

We recently changed our car and bought an A6 Avant and I even though I am not really a car obsessed person - I really love it. It is so comfortable (even at 34 wks pg) and has plenty of room for isofix car seats for both DD and forthcoming DC2. Love the leather seats - childproof as they wipe clean and cannot find anything to fault. The automatic box is incredibly smooth and responsive and so much better than the Discovery we had before. It just seems to have the gadgets we need and nothing that we don't. Service from the Audi garage has been fantastic too.

I was about to write exactly the same as Anteater!

Def no to BMW 5, just didn't gel with it.

Audi A6 - beautiful, beautiful, but loved itself a bit

Now more than happy with volvo v70, just ticks all the boxes, and we have 2 kids and loads of stuff.

Our last car was an Audi A4 before DS came along and we had to get bigger car - got a golf and we regret it immensly (well actually love the golf but have to have it for 3 years as company car) as we would love to change it for an Audi A6 after driving one whilst on holiday!!

used to have an A4....sigh, those were the days. Audis are fabulous - deffo more classy than BMWs.

Hah! So it's not just me who thinks the Audi is nicer!

Loved loved LOVED my volvo though, I must say ... sorely tempted to get another, but also fun (and lucky!) to have a change.

We think VOLVOs are DEFFO BRILL

WE now have a XC70 and it is the best so far

GEARTRONIC GEARS

SAT NAV + TV ~~~ THAT COMES OUT OF DASHBOARD + IS FULLY CONTROLLED BY STEEERING WHEEL OR 2 REMOTE CONTROLS FOR PASSENGERS {ALSO CONTROLS STEREO BY REMOTE CONTROL/STEERING WHEEL}

INTEGRATED PHONE SYSTEM WITH EXTRA HANDSET FOR PASSENGERS OTHERWISE MICROPHONE IS IN REAR VIEW MIRROR AND SOUND IN SPEAKERS AND OUT OF DRIVER HEAD REST

LOADS OF ROOM AS WE HAVE 2 HOUSES WE TAKE CAR LOADS OF STUFF BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS

very very safe

loads of power in fact too much sometimes as it is so quiet to drive and smooth I set the cruise control speedo

Thanks anteater for the alert

This is making me sad - someone stole our Audi - it was lovely DHs pride and joy and would love another but had got Golf by the time they found it in a container on its was to some distant african country!!

GameGirly · 26/03/2007 15:45

RTKM, we had all that too, it was so so fab! Do like the Audi, though. Had an A4 two cars ago, which was v. nice. TBH, I have very little say in the choice - DH's company car and therefore his baby!

So, Balanacingact, you know what you have to do ... go for the Audi (and try a Volvo for good measure!).

My bro had an audi A4 when he lived in USA

It was nice but his was a saloon rather than estate

He has BMW now and I really don't like them at all

Can only speak for the audi - we had an A6 before we moved out to Cyprus and really loved it. DH is thinking of bringning a tax free one home he likes them that much. BMW wasn't much competition, the only other one he's considering is the Volvo

....and this is why i love mumsnet!

right, i have told DH that he risks making us look like complete chavs if he buys a BMW
I am kidding of course, (not to offend any BMW owners out there....)

Volvo V50 - not as big as V70 and more sporty looking. Easy to drive and great on consumption. Looked at A6 but felt like we were sitting in a bit of a boat, in the V50, you actually feel a part of the car.
It's got plenty of room for 2 kids and lots of stuff in boot - you should see how well I pack for trips away.
Did have an XC90 but sold it. I miss it a lot but it really guzzled the gas.

we had a BMW and now have an Audi A4. TBH I don't know what kind of BMW it was but I just felt that the visibility all around was better with the BMW, can't figure out why - well maybe the windows were bigger or something. Having said that I have no complaints with the A4.

is the BMW 5 series a good family car, would you say? And (must whisper this bit)a good "lady's" car?! By that I mean when & if I drive it I'm not going to tank it and will drive itcarefully.Would I just be asking to be hounded by every boy-racer on the road?

Report
RanToTheHills · 26/03/2007 16:24

oh and are BMWs really chavvy?

Report
GameGirly · 26/03/2007 16:25

Oh, probably not RTTH! Take no notice of me - I was just put off by my BIL driving one. He really is a flash git!
