stay at home dads

We have just had a baby boy 2 weeks ago and my husband will be staying at home to look after him when I go back to work in a few months time.

Are there any other full time dads out there? If there are, would be great to hear from you and will get hubby to register too.

Ps - we live in the SW London area.

I'm one. This site is good for all general child rearing knowledge and support, homedad is good (but a lot less populated) for all the matey 'I can't get on with the sisterhood in the toddler groups' stuff.

Thanks for that. I think we came across that site already and realised there were not that many contributors to it. It's such a damn sexist world - everything to do with child care has mother attached to it and in this day and age people still think we are odd!

What have other people's experiences been?

my dh is a sahd as well we have a dd adn a ds- funniest experience so far was dh asking hv uif she was going to ask if he was feeling ok because she'd asked all the mums at the weaning talk if they were ok - oh nad dh apprecaitaing it was harder than it looked -

I've been a SAHD 2 days a week for the last 2 years or more when my partner has been working. The rest of the time I work from home anyway, so during any quieter work periods I can also be found down the playgrounds and one o'clock clubs of SW London.

DD is now nearly 3 and it's been great to spend so much time with her in these early years. I don't really see many other dads out with their kids during the week - to be honest I thought there would be more, but I wouldn't say I have had any bad experiences as a result of being a dad in what is still largely a mum's world.

Congrats to you Amijee and husband! Enjoy these early weeks - we're expecting dd2 in October.

Never been a full-time SAHD, but DW and I have used various combinations of work and care with our two - in fact, we've pretty much tried everything over the last 6 years. There were three months in 2002 when I was working part-time and at home with dd part time (two days a week) - that was fun. We tried to do something every day - park, seeing friends, etc. Then my contract went back up to 5 days and she was off to nursery again. I missed her.

For the last year, we've had:
Me: working at home and sometimes elsewhere.
DW: works 30 mins away.
DS (3): nursery, delivered by DW.
DD (6): at school, delivered by me.

Hey, I'm picking up the lingo.
