DH doesn't want DD playing Ice Hockey.

I thought I'd ask here as some dad's may know where he's coming from and can help me out.

DD is only 2yo and has expressed after watching dS1 play (4yo) that she wants to play. I have know qualms with this and mentioned to DH that I was going to get DD some skates and a stick (even if she doesn't carry it on it's good for her co-ordination.)

He blank out refused and said it's a man's sport, normally he doesn't care about gender in sports so that's why I'm a but miffed, when I mentioned that I play Ice hockey, he shrugged and said that's different you're my wife. (wtf?)

I've asked if it's because she's his only DD or because of the nature of the sport. He just shrugged. She's 2yo no-one is going to be pushing her into a bloody wall. I asked if Ice Skating would be better he said no.

Ice Hockey is a big thing in my life, DH knows this and I'm over the moon that 2 of my dc have expressed interest (I know it could be a passing phase). He attends DS1's practices and is very proud so I just don't get it.

Can they really play at 2? Even 4 seems really young - most 6+ struggle to remain upright on the ice!

HIBVU to say it's a mans sportShock

seems like a strange thing to say, I have three daughters and would love them to take up Ice Hockey

I'll be there with her holding her up. She's too young to stand on skates alone yet. She won't be playing but I can take her to his practices and use the kid's rink to skate with her (not gunna get the stick until older).

4 isn't that young. He's been doing it since he was 3. He's a quick skater, he can do crossovers and he's pretty good at skating backwards while doing crossovers.

I wanted to strangle him for that "man's sport" remark.

WhoWhatWhereWhen - That's why I'm at a loss. It's completely out of the norm for him.

Wow, doing crossovers at 4!

Are you in the UK?

He likes the ice so we take him skating and he's a quick learner. He'll be 5 in September.

Yeah, I'm in the UK.

Update; we discussed turned out he was grumpy because it seems dc want to do "mama's" favourites but not his (baseball & swimming). We have now decided DH will take DD and DS swimming to spend 1:1 time with them.
