My teenage son's a big fan.

Is it worth a watch?

There are definitely worse programs. Like all programs some are better the others and the amount of repeated episodes can get frustrating. But would say give it a go.

First couple of seasons were alright to watch.

Then it got cancelled and should have stayed there. It actually got cancelled twice only to be brought back by fans on the net.

I find most of the characters horrible. Peter is a disgusting man-child. Quagmire is a nasty little man. And don't get me started on the resident paedophile...

I actually find that it is an excuse for the 'writers' to put forth their homophobic, misogonystic, rascist, disabalist and sexist views but oh it'a okay it's meant to be outrageous like that Hmm

And a lot of it is just lazy writing. Copious nods to obscure american pop culture that doesn't translate well over the atlantic. Easy pops at celebrities. And fight scenes/jokes that take up half the show.

I remember one series that seemed to consist of the same storylines that the Simpsons had done before.

Don't get me wrong. I am a huge fan of adult animation. But Family Guy is from so far up Seth MacFarlane's arse it can't help but be full of smug shit.

I do love American Dad though. The characters are actually likeable. And it has actual plots and full storylines. Always a plus.

Thanks, I'll try not to be my Dad and say "what's this bloody rubbish" and then laugh all the way through it.

I got hooked on Big Bang that way.

I'll give it a go.

See when you look at it that way Scumbag, you do kinda have a point.

I really like it although most of the episodes have been on BBC3 about 10 times.
Scumbag, are you saying that a writer has to agree with the views of and like the characters he creates? I would say that Family Guy actually exposes casual homophobia, racism, sexism etc. for what it is and does it in a humourous way.

I would presume that writers of such shows would have been fans of the show or at least have watched it and liked it before getting the job.

Adult animation is kinda niche and most getting into the industry are fans of it to start with.

And Seth strikes me as one who would employ his friends or ones he would be able to have a beer with. It's definitley his show/baby.

I can't stand programs like that, I don't like South Park or American dad either, it's just not funny to me. Give me and DH Top Gear and Big Bang, any day of week :)

My DH think's we're doing to have a Howard on our hands when ds1 is older, I hope not! Haha.

I like Top Gear mainly for the funny challenges. I've never watched Dr. Who though.
