The rolling Football thread (2012-2013)

BelfastBloke · 12/08/2012 13:04

The rolling Football thread for Season '12-13 might as well start off with the same intro as did the original rolling Football thread:

There are quite a lot of football fans on MN, and also loads of football-haters. If we hide here in Dadsnet, none of the detractors will find us. But if they do, they are welcome to come here and moan.

You don?t have to be male to post here, of course. (No-one would say women can?t post in the Dadsnet section, just like no woman would EVER say men aren?t welcome on Mumsnet?)

Footy fans please sign in with

  1. Which team you support.
  2. Which team(s) you loathe.
  3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
  1. A thought on the season (Premiership/Championship/Champions? League/FA Cup/League Cup/(el clasico?)/(Euro 2012?)

Have supported Man. City for 44 years - through bad times and worse Grin

Not very keen on Utd.....LOL!!

My lads are City fans - they had no choice really on the matter

Hope Citys season carries on where last season left off!!

Hello Smile
Dunfermline Athletic fan here-have been all my life.
Our league season started yesterday-of to a flying start with a 4 nil win at Cowdenbeath. After a shaky pre season, lets hope its the start of a good season!
Cant say I particularly loathe any team but our biggest rivals are Raith Rovers and Falkirk, and Cowden also give us another derby game.
My 3dc's are all Pars fans-not really much choice as both me and dp as well as all my family follow them.
Not really wanting too much for this season. We were relegated from the SPL and the SFL1 is a cut throat league at the best of times. We also have a very young squad, so a finish in the top half of the table and a wee cup run would be good.

I appear to be the only Chelsea fan. As I've lived in North London for the last decade, I'm used to it.
I don't really have the energy to loathe other teams but if I did, it would be the predictable Spurs, Leeds, Leicester and a smidgeon of Arsenal.
My daughter's 9 weeks old. We'll see.
After last year's spectacularly improbable triumph, I'd probably settle for an FA Cup, although I'm also conscious that that would give Ashley Cole 9 (I think) FA Cup winners medals. Which somehow feels appallingly wrong.

Welcome, new ones! Some of the regulars are a bit tired out by all the Olympics, but they'll be along soon once the season begins.

I don't know about fantasy football on MN, anairofhope, all I know is that there has been one in the past.

Am here.
Not imprressed with knob AVB. Think the Modric debacle should have been sorted by now. Can't say I'm entirely thrilled with the prospect of 2012-13 season, right now.

Oblomov · 14/08/2012 16:25

Belfast, I think you should narrow the list down, or produce a new 'regulars' one, becuase some people only post once per season.

Man City fan here. I went to my first game about 18 years ago and was hooked. No turning back through good times and bad.

Most of the teams I have taken an irrational dislike to are teams where I have had run ins with the opposing fans accross the netted separation zone (I do apologise but what can I say except 'we are the North Stand!'. I served my apprenticeship as a city fan in the ahmen, lively North Stand at Maine Road) So that would be Coventry, West Brom, Portsmouth and obviously that other team. Oh, and any team which possesses Craig Bellamy, I refused to give City a penny of my cash whilst he was on our books! I never said I was rational, but I saw it through. It was hard though as it meant missing the first ever game ds went to.

Ds is now 6 and hooked. I guess he's having an easier time of it than dh did growing up.

1.) Blackpool
2.) Really dislike West Ham after play off final.
Reasons:- big club syndrome; loads of arrogant and abusive wide boy fans at play off final; Russell Brand; James Corden; Karen Brady; The Gold Brothers; Sam Allardyce; the hoofball that they play.
3.) My 14 yr old son is a big fan despite living in SE - went to his first game about 10 years ago and was indoctrinated by my good self.
4.) Title; Man City; Relgation West Ham, Swansea and Southampton.
Championship Winners; Blackpool

I just think it's a risk to pick someone so injury prone as your statement purchase, if that's what he is. I know he's had a fit season last year but he's been injured a lot over the years.

Suits me if he spends half the season on the physios table though!

Arsenal fans talk about him having 'a chocolate leg'

It's a Dutch phrase, apparently.

Just glad the chocolate had been in the freezer last season. He hauled us into the Champions' League pretty much singlehandedly.

Fan- you are absolutely right of course and I would be inclined to agree with you 100% if he was our main striker.

But he's not- I would imagine he'll be pulled off the bench to turn a game and produce some magic.

And will be on rotation with the others throughout the season. Had to win a signing battle with City this year- to show he means business.
