The rolling Football thread for Season '12-13 might as well start off with the same intro as did the original rolling Football thread:

There are quite a lot of football fans on MN, and also loads of football-haters. If we hide here in Dadsnet, none of the detractors will find us. But if they do, they are welcome to come here and moan.

You don’t have to be male to post here, of course. (No-one would say women can’t post in the Dadsnet section, just like no woman would EVER say men aren’t welcome on Mumsnet…)

Footy fans please sign in with

1.Which team you support.
2.Which team(s) you loathe.
3.How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
4. A thought on the season (Premiership/Championship/Champions’ League/FA Cup/League Cup/(el clasico?)/(Euro 2012?)

We aren't here yet surely?

Pan Sun 28-Apr-13 18:42:36

it's a bit disingenuous of SAF to criticise Arse fans re vP's 'welcome' and comparing it to our returning players 1. it's usually been the case that SAF got rid of them against their preference ( poss excepting Pique) and 2. we didn't struggle without the said players as their departure had been part of a master plan in any case and the show rolled on.

Arsenal are still shit though.
<oh come on! It's lonely on this terrace>

Pan Wed 01-May-13 23:42:49

Okay. There's a bet going on, isn't there.

BelfastBloke Wed 08-May-13 15:24:15

Sorry Pan,

I'm back if you need a shoulder to cry on. What will you do without Fergie?

Pan Wed 08-May-13 18:36:26

Crumbs. Just crumbs really.

Pan Wed 08-May-13 21:58:22

Back in Arsenal's hands!

BelfastBloke Wed 08-May-13 22:53:03

back in our hands but playing two teams who are really going to have to fight

NicholasTeakozy Thu 09-May-13 20:12:49

So SAF is handing the hairdryer to Chris Moyles the current Everton manager.

In other news we got relegated to the Vauxhall Conference North, so next season we play Bishops Stortford. Wonderful.

BelfastBloke Fri 10-May-13 12:58:48

Moyes: "I know how hard it will be to follow the best manager ever, but the opportunity to manage Manchester United isn't something that comes around very often"

Heh

By way of anecdote..

In the mid 90s I was chair of our local Trade union/prof assoc. and we were in dispute with our local employers re conditions of service, not money. A handful of our Board were season ticket holders. I wrote to The Wizard asking for an indication of support, relying on his history as a shop steward in Govan. Realistically thinking he had other things to think about, and that I was being fanciful, it looked like a bit of a punt.

He replied to me, the following day, (no emails then!) with a beautifully-crafted letter, stating that as an employee of MUFC he cannot make any public statement on this, but that he was aware of our dispute, and unofficially he wanted to express his support to our members and wishing us best with it. Signed with his own AF swoosh. The letter is framed and hangs still in the union office.

And Rooney? Consensus is he has cooked his own goose. whinging scouser

Right up there, at the top, you asked some questions so having found what surely must be the best place to hang out on MN I'd best answer them. smile

1.Which team you support. Well, Chelsea of course. Who else?! grin
2.Which team(s) you loathe. None I really dislike, not keen on Liverpool, keener now on MUFC as it was their manager I despised rather than the team.
3.How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team. Hopeless. One fairweather Blues fan, one determined to be awkward, doesn't really have a clue about football Gooner.
4. A thought on the season (Premiership/Championship/Champions’ League/FA Cup/League Cup/(el clasico?)/(Euro 2012?) Well Euro 2012 was pretty good! grin The Europa will have to do this year but the chances of us winning it are far from a promise.

smile

Pan Fri 10-May-13 19:51:07

Welcome rambo!

rambososcar Fri 10-May-13 19:55:29

Thank you Pan.

Pan Fri 10-May-13 20:05:08

We've missed so much this season on here. Goal-line technology, Benitez, financial rules for UEFA, refereeing standards, Germany v Spain dominance in Europe, and should Shearer be strangled or just shot in the head?

tigerdriverII Fri 10-May-13 20:12:11

Ooh. I joined this thread a zillion years ago and never got on the list, not sure why <<weeps>>

But guess where I've got tickets for on Sunday..... grin

rambososcar Fri 10-May-13 20:14:21

Goal-line technology - 50/50. Sometimes I just want the game to flow come what may, sometimes I scream at the ref. Refereeing standards - sometimes I scream at the ref! grin Get Foy, Webb and Clattenberg out, start bringing in new blood, a wider ref pool to choose from, make reffing a more attractive proposition for the young sportsperson. Germany v Spain - meh, Germany but I can't get excited about it. Financial rules for UEFA - you mean they have any? Shearer shot or strangled - both.

Benitez - just don't go there. angry hmm

Pan Fri 10-May-13 20:21:19

ooh Benitez. Really really good job done in all of the mire he has trod in, and none of his making, surely. Abramovich has created a culture of the 'ego' and B. has done an excellent job of, oddly, breaking that down. Another experience of The Special One will be a reversion to that culture. But it's your bed.smile

rambososcar Fri 10-May-13 20:30:47

A good job? He took over when we were in 3rd place, 4 points adrift of the leaders. Now look at the mess we're in! shock And as for his benching of John Terry and Frank Lampard, he needs shooting and strangling too!!! If Frank doesn't hit that record of best goalscorer before the end of the season, because he's almost certainly not going to be at the Bridge next year, it will be no-one's fault but Benitez's for repeatedly benching our vice captain. For that alone Benitez deserves the derision and contempt of the fans - and so does Abramovic for putting him where he is and unceremoniously dumping RDM.

<and breathe> :D

delboysfileofax Fri 10-May-13 20:35:55

Jesus, there's a dadsnet? how did I not know this? Southampton fan here!

Pan Fri 10-May-13 20:40:38

Yeah..my point exactly about egos and Chelsea. It isn't about Lampard getting a total of goals - it's about the club and team.

And you aren't in a mess at all. Still in third and no excuse because our Manc clubs excelled, when your club wanted to undermine the efforts of the manager, who takes responsibility for the outcomes each week. Fans chose to make life difficult for Benitez, and so the club. It's a bit late to complain about the outcome.

Pan Fri 10-May-13 20:42:03

delboy - def squeaky bum time...

rambososcar Fri 10-May-13 20:51:11

We'll have to agree to differ, Pan or I'll monopolise the whole thread forever and a day as I jabber incessantly about my beloved Blues!

On another note, I'm just about to check on the fortunes of another south London lot - Palace - in the hope that they're winning tonight.

delboysfileofax Fri 10-May-13 20:53:17

Looking at the table we should be ok, but.... as a long suffering saints fan I'm well aware we can snatch a defeat from the jaws of victory at any time

Pan Sun 12-May-13 19:55:04

Well, that was all emotional, wasn't it?

But with Scholes going nowhere else, Giggs looking for an appointment in the coaching staff as well, poss. P. Neville following DM, and SAF behind the scene...it could really be 'same old, same old..' Which is nice.

BelfastBloke Mon 13-May-13 06:36:03

Was it emotional? I didn't see any footy yesterday. I felt some emotion when I heard that Spurs had won, damnit.

What are Giggs's plans?

tigerdriverII who do you support? The Watford finale was amazing!
