Gas and electricity

Does 133 pounds per month sound a lot to you?!

I have a two bedroomed end terraced house. Loft insulated well and cavity wall insulation too.

No tumble drier. Tv etc not on during the day. Heating on only when cold (to my knowledge although DP works from home and Im sure he puts it on more than he lets on)

Only thing we do have is two computers on 24/7 as one is a server (DP work related) and the other one he is always on doing his work/uploading/downloading but all to do with his business not for fun so cant really cut this out)

Got meter reading other day previously paid 100 a month (50/50) Now they have put my monthly payment to 133. Yet when I have looked at my bill Im acutally in debt by the gas for 70 but in credit on my electricity for 150.

Im totally confused by this and lady I spoke to said its to cover the inflation of the prices?!

I cant help but think thats a lot, or am I just been wishful.

It's almost double what I pay and I'm in a 3 bed with a tumble drier that's used all day Saturday every week and a dishwasher that's on everyday. My heating and stuff is prob the same as you as we're both out all day.

And if you're in credit how can they justify that! Get on to USwitch and see if you can change supplier.

I pay £92/month for gas and electricity and mine's a biggish 3-bed semi. My supplier tried to pass on a big increase earlier this year when I came to the end of a fixed tariff and their prices went up. However, I ran some comparisons, found cheaper alternatives, called them back and asked them to match the best price... which they did.

Im in a 2 bed flat with DD and fir the last 3 months we used 30 pounds of electricity. No gas here. Now it was over the summer and autumn and I use hot water only fir showers (hot water tank was broken when I moved in and then I got used to needing very little hot water for washing up/ hand washing). So even if I used hot water it normally it wouldn't have been more than 15 quid a month. My DD is £35 so if I have heating on in winter I wouldn't expect the bill to exceed that.

Now in the previous flat I had gas a d it seems it was more expansive!

The server is going to really bump up the usage btw. My brother has one and his electricity bills are frightening. If it's work-related, is it fully expensed?

Im not sure actually Ill have to ask him. Its his own company so probably not!

My dad has one of those things that tells you how much is being used by each appliance so Im going to have a lend of that.

THat's very expensive. I have a three bed mid terrace and pay £27 for electricity and £36 for gas each month. That's with EDF. I've just received a letter saying it's going up at the end of Dec though, so I'm going to ring them for my annual useage then go on some comparison sites to see if any of the others come up cheaper. It's a good time to switch apparently, as it's a level playing field in that all the major suppliers have announced price rises.

And btw, I don't think they can increase the DD without your consent (although I could be wrong).

Im going to have to have a look I think as it does seem ridiculous. I literally have a living room a kitchen, a small passage and stairs, two bedrooms and a bathroom! Only five radiators in the whole house, a combi boiler, one television, two computers, a server thing (which ive now been informed is actually an external hard drive the server isnt plugged in as it doesnt work - just collecting dust it would seem)a washer, a fridge freezer, regular kitchen appliances slow cooker etc, ceiling lights. Thats literally thats all we have in the house!

Mine's around the same for a three bed semi but we're all electric. Oh how I hate storage heaters.

That sounds similar to us. We have a small new build detached and it is a nightmare to heat.

The loft is well insulated but within 30 minutes of turning the heating off the house is cold. Our bills last year frightened us and this year we aim not to turn on the heating if at all possible.

Our house is exposed on a corner and when the wind blows the house shakes - never buy a new build. We thought they were supposed to be economical and when we saw the loft insulation we thought it was but we think the wall insulation is terrible.

We have a three way corner house that only had bungalows opposite. Im wondering if this is why it seems so cold sometimes. The walls are insulated though.

we trying not to use the heating too.
