I've signed up, didn't manage to complete last year and hopefully will be better organised and with more of an idea what is required this time around.

Anyone else thinking about it?

I've done it 3 times and have just started thinking about what to do this time around. I've discovered that I get better results when I have an outline ready.

Can I ask why people do it?
I was blogging about this recently and some of the comments back were really negative.
So what makes you want to do such an intensive write? As oppposed to the usual small but regular?

Litchick - What kind of negative things were people saying? It's surely just a bit of fun, a bit like doing a marathon or something if you're a regular jogger.

I don't take it seriously in relation to what I would call "my work" but it is nice to have demands made externally, a bit like exam term at university or something. It takes away the dithering and perfectionism that can unfortunately often crop up in my daily writing. It provides a background institution and community feeling to an activity that I'm usually on my own with.

Is this where you write 1000 words a day or something?

WSP - some writers felt NaNo devalued the craft of writing by giving the impression that you can 'knock something out'. That proper writing is thoughtful and like it or lump it, bloody time consuming. It cannot be truncated into a month.
Also many writers feel that the 'oh I'll have a go' approach belittles how hard it is to write a good book. At least that was the kind of discussion my blog post raised.

Whilst I agree it is a thoughtful process and I write everyday, I'm still lured by the thrill of NaNo.
I think you put it very succinctly in that I am enthused by the idea that I can write without pressure - which considering my publising deadlines, will be new and rather wonderful.

I think I'll blog on this agisn, thanks for the inspiration.
