A Novel's Title

I have a title and an outline. Just Googled the title to get the proper detail on this object, and there is already what appears to be a successful novel with the same title from 1989, although a completely differet story.

Does that mean I now have to rethink? It is rather the main meaning of my story.

It depends how distinctive it is, I suppose. You might her away with it if it's a one word title, less so if it's a phrase, I would say.

It would be along the lines of 'The Olive Tree' , but this book was top of Google.

Is it the same genre? You're on safer ground if it's clearly a different type of book.

Completely different. One is war, one is stepfamily.

Well, I just looked and there are 3 different books called 'The Lemon Tree', so if it's along those lines I wouldn't worry.
I wouldn't stress too much about the title at this stage anyway, because sometimes publishers change them.

The title would depend on what your publisher thinks of it. In any case the title of a book is always linked to the author who wrote it.
