I need a girls name that can be changed/shortened to provide 2 names without it being too obvious that it is the same person.
eg, elizabeth, liz (but not as obvious), any suggestions?

wow loads of great ideas,
born early 70's, working class background, middle class aspirations. one name to be the name that the character was born and grew up with, the other name to be a more sophisticated, classy version.Keep them coming!

Catherine - from cathy to Kate. I am around that age from that kind of background and know a couple of Cathys who are now Catherine or Kate.

Also know an Alexandra who used to be Sandra or sandy and is now Alex

Patricia - Tricia/trish - patti/patsy

Victoria - vicky/vikki - tori

Not a name suggestion as such, but when I want a name for someone of a particular age I go back to the 'most popular' lists and see what was about.
