...when you write, do you write on your computer, or do you put pen/pencil/Crayola to paper?

I find writing pen to paper a lot more "personal", if that makes any sense at all. I also find that I censor myself a little, which can't be good. Using the computer is obviously a lot easier in terms of editing/redrafting, but bashing away at a keyboard a la the opening credits to Murder She Wrote sometimes feels a little sterile.

Or perhaps I'm over thinking this all far too much, and procrastinating when I should be writing?

Depends how lazy and/or motivated I feel. Nothing nicer than sitting down with a lovely new notepad, ink pen filled when I am inspired. But when it all starts to go wrong and you realise the bits are in the wrong order and you keep crossing things out etc etc I then wish I had started on the computer. I have to write articles for work and somehow I feel more business-like on the computer and just get on with it, without all the procrastinating hunt for a nicer pen/book/better light etc!!

Computer works for me every time - my handwriting's appalling and my hand aches after even 15 minutes of pushing a pen across paper (am left-handed, btw, hence the pushing). I like how my typing speed enables me to get out all the words in my head quickly. I also like seeing my words in typeface - for some reason this aides my productivity and creativity.

Now stop procrastinating and get writing - join us on this thread, it's not just for those wanting to write a book - we keep each other motivated and writing:

I've got this amazing gadget called alpha neosmart, it's a battery powered keyboard (battery life about a year) v light and portable, you can take it anywhere, stick it on your lap and start typing. Not as sterile as a computer keyboard, somehow, you can type in bed, but when you have finished instead of having to key it all in you just plug the gadget into your computer and it downloads all the text. It saves me a lot of time! and you can even work in a tent, on the run, save stuff in diff files - great for notes, character obs. Cost £60 on ebay.

Usually whatever I can get my hands on Grin Napkins, the back of the newspaper, bus tickets, a note book and the laptop.
