I want to conceive 2nd baby May next year, and I think I should start trying in April? I'm due to get married in July and need to fit in the dress but would like to do a 'we're pregnant' announcement at the wedding. It took me 3 months of being off protection (only 12 days of actual trying) last time. Baby is 6 months now.

So a huge poll really.

How long did it take you for 2nd baby?

How old was DC1 when you started trying?

at the typo in the thread title

DS2 - ermm didn't try - (a "oops")
DS3 - also didn't try (and also tried to prevent with the MAP when we went "oops" after the deed)

3yrs 3 months between DS1 and 2
3yrs 6 months between DS2 and 3

sorry, being facetious! I got pg first month we tried for #2, sadly mc but I was surprised it happened so quickly. That was three weeks ago, and I'm starting to think I may be pg again And there was me thinking I was about as fertile as a lump of cheese!

Honestly, you can plan these things too much. To aim to be pregnant in July I personally would start trying 3 months before but if you're worried about fitting into the dress I wouldn't start trying until after the wedding. Do you really want morning sickness on your wedding day? I had hardly any with dc1 but suffered terribly with dc2.

DD1 took 4 months to conceive (DH was away a lot so this contributed to how long it took).

We hoped for a 2 year age gap so we started trying shortly before her 1st birthday.

She's now 2.5 and I have 2 ectopics under my belt but no baby.

If you want another baby, I would just get on with it. If the wedding dress dilemma makes you want to hold off then wait until a few months before the wedding maybe?

DS1 was 19 months when we started trying and it took 2 months.

DD1 took 2 months to conceive
we started thinking about trying again when she was 17 months and so were a bit careless and conceived without trying.
m/c that pregnancy and then it took 2 years to conceive again. I am currently 22 weeks pregnant and dd is 3.9.

You can't plan these things. I wanted 2.5 years gap - I (all being well, touch wood and all that) will have a 4.2 age gap.

I have never understood the trying 3 months before you actually want to get pregnant. It isn't cumulative!

These things are well and truly different for everyone arn't they? I worry myself sick that I won't be able to conceive as my body seemed to go to rack and ruin when I was preg with DS and then I got a womb infection and bled a lot. Do you think this could be the case?

IMO you won't conceive when stressed. Why not enjoy your wedding day and then try for a baby?

Got pg 1st time when ds1 was 9 months old. Had only had one period after stopping bf at 7 months. But I think that makes me very lucky.

DD1 was 9 months when we thought about having another one, we were moving back to Scotland and DP was going a month before us, we had one unprotected session the night before he left and DD2 was my leaving present.

hi, there are a lot of things to think about - i like you got pregnant very quickly first time round. Had 'planned' to have 2nd spring next year before my daughter goes to school (we left a big gap anyway for all sorts of reasons), still not pregnant so the 'plan' has totally failed and now I don't care how it fits in at all just that dd gets a sibling!!

i know it probably won't be the same for you but i guess i'm just saying don't plan too much!

We tried for 6 months with our 1st dd. Was hoping to start trying for baby #2 after Christmas. Woops baby #2 due in April! DD will have just turned two. As for wedding dresses if you do fall pregnant before hand there are some lovely empire line ones out there. Good luck

@ title!

We didn't use anything after no.1 and it took nearly 2 years to concieve no.2, but it was the first month of 'activly trying' ie. timing etc.

DD1 - got pregnant straight away; DD2 took 4 months; 3 years and 12 days between them.

Loved the 3 year age gap btw - lots of my antenatal group had a 2 year age gap and looked very stressed for a long time after the arrival of their dc2

Ds took 3 months. Started trying for dc2 January 2007. Am getting my hopes up that this 22nd month of trying has been the successful one as got a (VERY faint) BFP this morning. So agree with two please - I though dc2 would take around 3 months to conceive and it has been so much longer.

DS1 took 1m month. Assumed DC2 would appear quickly (stupid assumption) and didn't start trying until DS1 was 13 months. Now been TTC for 7 months with no joy.
