Your cycle could actually be seen as an irregular cycle as a "normal" cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days. Cycles over 35 days in length can more often than not be anovulatory. It is also quite possible to have periods without ovulating.

If you have been ttc for nearly a year now I would pay a visit to the GP to have a blood test done. This will show you what your hormone levels are like. If your periods have been consistently irregular there is always a cause- two possibilities here are thyroid imbalance or a condition called polycystic ovaries. You should be checked further by the GP to see if either PCO or thyroid imbalance is there (this can be done via the blood test).
