Took the pill til the end of August. Break gap from pill started 1 September. AF arrived 5 September lasting until 8 September. Had no idea when ovulation was but tried conceiving on 15 and 21 September. Not had AF and no idea if I should have had it or if its due imminently. I just dont understand how it works when you stop taking the pill and are having a break rather than a proper period etc. Obviously havent started a new pack of pills, which I would have done on 8 September if I wasnt trying to conceive.

Have I confused everyone, have certainly confused myself! Talk about flustered...

When you stop taking the pill it can take your body a while to wake up and realise that it needs to start ovulating again.

This is why doctors sometimes recommend waiting a cycle or two before ttc after coming off the pill.

Until your cycle regulates and you can start to get a handle on when you ovulate the best thing to do is probably to have sex 3 or 4 times a week.

Most women ovulate 12-16 days before the first day of their next period, so once you've had a period or two you might be able to get some idea of when you ovulate. Another thing you might look out for is "egg white cervical mucus" (Google it and you'll find lots of info) which appears in the days before ovulation and tells you that it's a good time to ttc. The only thing is that during your first cycle after coming off the pill I can imagine it is entirely possible to have more than one patch of ewcm, but it might still give you some guidence.

As far as I know, the period you had after stopping the pill was not a 'genuine' period but triggered by the change in hormones by stopping taking certain hormones.

It can be notoriously difficult to estimate when your natural cycle will return following the pill - some women it kicks back in first month and others have a few changeable cycles.

Did you notice any indication of ovulation (egg white cervical mucus, ovulation pains, increased sex drive) this month? (you can search some of the ttc threads on here if you want more detailed pointers!).

You may not have ovulated yet so keep looking out for the signs and keep having plenty of sex .

Good luck!

I did notice signs of ovulation and hoped to have "got lucky" this month. Guess I am expecting to much, when I've just come off the pill. Had lots of cramping around when AF should have arrived but then nothing. Hopefully when it turns up I can start planning when the best time is!

Thanks for the advice, most helpful.

Hi I'm very new to all this and have been trying to find the most suitable thread to follow. I'm 25 recently married and hubbie (whats the code for this?) and I have been ntntc I'm charting but he's just got his head around me not taking the pill. I am on CD13 and believe I found ewcm yesterday! But Hubbie was 'to tired' aaaghh! He was unaware I was ovualting; think that would freak him out! We did however have sex on CD9,10 and 11 so fingers crossed please!! x
