I have ds (nearly 3) but we didn't plan to have him or track my cycle etc we just left it to chance.

My very good friend is just starting trying to conceive and had her last period starting on the 1st of this month. She then said she had sex around days 11-15.

She is due to have her period anytime now.

Firstly - is it right that you measure the days from the 1st day of your period, not from the end of it?

Secondly - is it usual that you ovulate around day 15? (I'm guessing everyone is totally different but is that a general assumption?)

And finally - if she is pregnant, is it too early to do a test?

She wants to know whether to test now and asked me as an 'experienced' mum...

I've looked through some previous threads as I admit I know nothing about all of this. The abbreviations confuse me so go easy on me!

if her cycle is 28 days, then she could potentially test now

it depends how regular her periods have been

you take day 1 as the first day of your period

if you have a 28 day cycle you tend to ovulate around day 14, but that is not true for every woman

sperm can survive 5 - 7 days but the egg for only around 1 -2 days so her timings might be right

and regarding the 28 day thing, she said she's always been pretty much spot on the 28 days

just didn't want to advise her to test and it's too early, would rather say wait a couple of weeks if that's what it takes to get a definite result. if that makes sense

direct her to this website instead - type in the 1st day of her last period and you'll be shown a chart with her ovulation day, fertile days, next period due date etc

Thanks Wellies that's a good idea and it looks like a great site.

Keeps my MN secret safe for now!

I think I'll have to come clean soon though, I think she could really benefit from MN.
