No Its not a HSG apparently its newer version of that though. So its not very painful? I have heard of people bleeding and cramping for a couple of weeks after it?

Hiya

Yes, had a HyCoSy a couple of months back. It's an internal ultrasound. Slightly uncomfortable (felt quite uncomfortable during, but as soon as it was over, I felt fine, & I'm a wimp!). Speculum, thin tube put in with dye in it & the internal ultrasound thingy. Dye feels a little strange. HSG is what it turns into if they can't see your tubes with the HyCoSy. Literally you stay where you are and they put an x-ray dye in instead, and take normal x-ray pictures (which I could see, and took my mind off the discomfort).

All over in about 15 mins. Given a whopping great sanitary towel and some oh-so-sexy string nickers! Off we went home (where I milked it for hot water bottles & my dh dancing attendance on me!!).

Hth

Agree with LindsayS, my HyCoSy was exactly the same procedure only with a solution full of bubbles they can see on an ultrasound. My DH waited outside as there were already about 5 people in the room. No real pain, no after effects other than a little dribbling afterwards.

The only thing I would add is that I wasn't prepared to get the results then and there - call me underprepared, but I was under investigation for failure to conceive, and it had literally never occurred to me that 5 minutes after this test the consultant would sit me down and say that it looked like my tubes were completely blocked, conception was highly highly unlikely naturally, and she would put me on the waiting list for an exploratory operation, but IVF would most likely be the end result. I was in shock after this as it just hadn't occurred to me I might "fail" the test.

Obviously this doesn't happen often at all, but might be best to have a think about what the procedure will show and how it could affect you either way.

Sorry to be the voice of doom, and I'm sure you will be fine.....

Onlyaphase - no dont be sorry - thats exactly the type of advice I like - I always like to consider every eventuality. I guess it hadn't really occurred to me they might be blocked either as I have my own theories about our infertility.....thanks for the advice
