When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

Conception

if you check your CM to figure out your fertile time, have you checked it against other things (OPK, temping?). Is CM a reliable indicator, or have I been getting busy at the wrong time of month for the past year??

The title says it all really!

I'm getting worried that for the past year DH and I have been concentrating all our efforts at the wrong time of the month (clutching at straws??). I don't temp as still up at night with DS so would be all to pot anyway, but was wondering if those of you who do, have found that ov times from temping tie in with your EWCM?

Hi

I don't think mine do. I've been checking CM and noting ov pain for the last 5 months, done OPKs for a couple of those months too. All the evidence pointed at me ovulating on day 15 or 16. However, I've done temping for two full cycles now and both times I don't see the temp rise until 2 days later.

I checked in the TCOYF book and she reckons some women's bodies take a while to respond to the increase in progesterone, in which case I should go by the EWCM/OPK/ov pain.

Temping has still been useful though as it shows I've been ovulating & has given me 1-2 day warning of AF, which has saved a lot on tests!

Having said all that I'm still not pg after 5 cycles so this month I'm going to BD until I see a rise, to be on the safe side.

Hi Captain,

I don't think mine do either...OPKs and my temps show that I ovulate two days after my EWCM seems to stop....not a massive difference (I managed to conceive without OPKs and temping the first time) but a difference none-the-less. (I thought I o'd on day 15 and it is day 17)

Goodluck

Hi Captain,

Just to be different - my pregnancies seem to indicate that I have a couple of days before I've noticed any EWCM - I really think to maximise chances of success you need to be having sex lots through most of your cycle!

Good luck

that is SO interesting - thank you all. (was away for the weekend so couldn't respond sooner). I was beginning to think we might be focussing on the wrong days, so will have to start just going for it more often (poor DH, feeling used as it is!).

Well I don't do any other monitoring apart from CM, so have now way of knowing if it is correct ot not. However, I have a fairly irreguar cycle (CD31-CD38) but I can guarentee that 13 days after the last day I see EWCM I get my period. Always, exactly, I can set my watch by it! So I am pretty certain that for me at least this must be an accurate way of monitoring ov.
