Light brown spotting 5 dpo

Morning

I am wondering if anyone can offer me any advice. We have been ttc for the last 6 months in which time my periods have become slightly irregular and follow a pattern of 24 days, 25 days, 28days, 28 days, on that basis I am expecting this cycle to be short one of 24 days and I am currently on day 19. I don't chart my temperature but do use opk's and got + on day 10(pm), 11(am) and 12(am), so from that I am thinking I ovulated about day 12/13, but last night when I wet to the toilet I noticed that I had a light brown staining on my knickers (sorry tmi)which would only be 5/6 dpo. I always get a light brown spotting before my af, this can be anywhere between 2-5 days before my af but have never had it as early as 5dpo, normally at the earliest 9dpo - Has anyone else experienced this? is it mid-cycle spotting? Or could it be something else to worry about?

Thanks
x

It could be good news, because it could be implantation spotting. That usually comes at about 7 to 10 dpo, but can be as early as 5.

Thank you - I suppose I am always hoping that might be the case. I have had no more today so far, but there is still time, and have a few twinges and cramps, so just don't know. I have never had it happen so early on in my cycle before.

Spotting between periods should be investigated to ascertain the cause particularly if this is has happened before. Light brown blood is "old blood".

OPK's are beset with problems anyway; such kits assume that there is only one LH surge every month and that such a surge is immediately followed by ovulation. Both of these are not true. Would therefore suggest you no longer use them.

Thanks for your response Attila.
I suppose I use the opk's to see if my body is doing what it should be doing. I know they only way to confirm ovualtion is to have blood tests done, but I don't believe I have any reason to believe that I am not (would there be any sypmtoms if your not ovulating?)

I have a hospital appointment to check there is no underlying problems regarding ttc and will obviously be mentioning the spotting then.
I know this might be a silly question but does spotting so early on in your cycle affect your chances of conceiving?

Lynsy don't worry about the spotting just yet, it could be an implantation bleed, especially if it is a really small amount, as you say. If you are worried contact your gp, and certainly tell the hospital when you go for your investigations. Perhaps it is a moon thing this month as I have had spotting this cycle, while doing a natural frozen embryo transfer, natural meaning no drugs, and I never usually have spotting, not even when I was pg with DS (IVF).
