Fast track conception by going private

This is the third month after having a miscarriage that we have been TTC. I was wondering if anyone has gone down the private treatment route to conceive in a more predictable way ie under the supervision of professionals who have expertise in what they are looking for. We are in a fortunate position in that we can afford this and would help me gain some control again. I am 37 on Tuesday and really don't want to wait the 6 months required until we get medical intervention. I am finding it all very difficult. My DH has erectile problems and so we have been ttc using a sample and a needless syringe, we couldn't have covered all bases any better this month. My period is due at the end of next week and I just know that I will not be pregnant. I don't know if we should just give up for a couple of months, easier said than done. I really feel a lot of mental distress about it, it is constantly in my thoughts and I feel as though I have no control over any of the
situation. I can't bear the rollercoaster each month, half the month eating, drinking and going out as normal then the latter half of the month being so much more careful hence not feeling like going out as much and so there seems to be so much more time to think about the situation. Any advice is so appreciated.

If you can afford it then I believe that professional assistance in IUI (which is waht you are trying to achieve at home) is definitely worth it and will probably result in a quicker pregnancy. Good Luck.

Do you know if I could be referred within the '6 month' standard waiting time? Is the IUI when they implant the sperm in to the fallopian tubes? Thanks so much for your advice, it's nice to know that people are listening.

Hi
I was not in the same position as you, but we chose to go private for some fertility investigations and treatment. I woud say if you can afford it (comfortably) then go for it. OUr experThe difference between the time you get with the consultants, the extent to which you get taken seriously and the timeframe over which you get treated can be staggering (sadly).
Good luck

Thanks so much for that, good to get some positive news. just to be clear though do you mean that in your experience your treatment generally was way better privately than NHS? It would be good to be taken seriously and for someone to work hard on our behalf.

I went privately as I didnt want to be messed around by the NHS. Waiting months for appointments, seeing different doctors etc etc. In your late thirities you cannot afford to wait around. Remember that private clinics are multi million pound businesses and the most well known ones will have waiting lists.

Try the Lister Hospital in London but be warned there is often no place to sit in the waiting room as it is so popular. I think that says it all. Try and get one of the very first appointments then they dont get backed up. Also tell them you are really flexible with appointment times. They often have cancellations and a call once or twice a week whilst you are waiting could pay off. I did this and they said they had just had a cancellation and I was in the next day. I thought the place would be really depressing but there is a real buzz and sense of hope to the place. People know they are in one of the best places and doing something positive. would expect to pay about £200 plus extra for tests.

Although I used the Lister for tests they suggested IVF. I really wasnt keen as we already had one child, however we decided to start treatment and what do you know - in the first week of treatment I found I was already pregnant. Our second son is now 6 years old......

Cookiemg - I'm sad to say that yes, the treatment was probably 'better' private compared to the nhs.

Yes IUI is when the sperm is implanted but they can give you drugs to stimulate your ovaries etc and they wash the sperm and so it may be more effective than DIY at home, especially if you are borderline with regards to fertility.
