AF has arrived - now how do I make a baby whilst bf?

Have just got AF back after 8 months, and am hoping to get some info/advice from any of you who have 'been there & done that' about ttc a second time whilst bf.

DD is still a very enthusiastic breastfeeder, and although she usually sleeps through the night for about 10-12 hours, she does sometimes wake up for night feeds (she has done so 3 out of the last 5 nights). Some days she will also take against eating and exclusively bf instead.

Now I suppose my AF is back because of the reduction in night feeding, but does this mean that I have definitely started ovulating?

Also, if DD goes through a phase of ramping up her bf sessions, could this interfere with my cycle, or even stop it altogether?

I'm not going to ttc until the end of the year, but I'd like to get my cycle up and running reliably, and practice temping, over the next 8 months whilst still allowing DD reasonable boob access for as long as she wants it.

To think, after all these years I still don't know everything there is to know about the birds & bees!!

Thanks for any help - although I suspect that I'm over-thinking the whole thing!

Can't help much I'm afraid as I had to all but stop feeding dd1 at a year in order to get af back and conceive dd2!
I did ovulate after my first af, my cycle settled at 35 days and dd2 was conceived next cycle.

I think if your breastfeeding increases it can interfere with your cycle, but I suppose everyone is different. I think you just have to wait and see how regular it is now and assume if its regular you are likely to be ovulating.

Good luck when it comes to ttc!

I got pg while b-feeding, as did my mum and sister! It is possible to get an period without ovulating, but after my first two pregnanies I went straight into regular cycles.

I am not sure, but I believe that temping is not useful during b-feeding, but don't know why this is.

I got my first af after 4 months while bf-ing dc1 was pg three cycles later, despite dc1 being a keen feeder. b-fing then came to an abrupt halt as the pg changed the flavour of the milk and dc1 self-weaned suddenly when I was just a few weeks pregnant.

I hth.
