Hi,
I had a routine(or so I thought)appt. with G.P. this morning to have my copper coil removed(which I have had in for over 2yrs.)
Thinking about ttc.again hence reason for removal.
Anyways after various undignified positions she asked me to get into! she couldn't find threads or locate coil. Its not that she hasn't removed loads of them before & she isn't an inexperienced G.P.,BUT AFTER trying she said sorry she would have to abandon trying & refer me to GYNAE CONSultant who would be able to remove it easier for me .
But first I have to get a scan @ Hosp. which I am presuming is to check where coil is? or to check that it hasn't come out before I see consultant.
I don't think I have passed it without realising, its not 1st coil I have had fitted over the years & I thought I would have noticed if it had fell out.
asLSO I do check threads sporadically ,last time being about a month ago & I def. felt threads then.(told G.P this)
Of course now this has happened I went home & checked myself & I can't locate threads anymore either!
What I am really worried about is WHEN i HAVE SCAN will they be able to see if it is there or not & also could it have gone up the way into my womb & would they then have to 'go in' & open my womb to remove it if it has gone in there,or is it not possible for coil to get moved up that way?

Most likely explanation is that the threads are up in the cervix and they'll be easily "fished out" with a suitable instrument. Or the coil has come out without you noticing. The scan will tell if it's there or not.

Worst case scenario is the coil has gone through the wall of the womb into your abdomen - THIS IS VERY VERY RARE, don't panic. It can usually be retrived using keyhole surgery. If there's no coil on scan they'll want to do an x-ray to check this hasn't happened.
