Conception

erm...new to all this... when should we 'get busy'?

Hi everyone

New to all this TTC as my first baby baby was conceived VERY quickly - within first month, was quite a shock.

We are trying for second one so need to be a bit more scientific about this as (the same as everyone on this thread) we want to be successful ASAP. Here's the question: last month my cycle was 30 days between each period.

When would be the best time to concentrate our efforts? Day 15 this month, or before?

With thanks for all help...

Hi Munchkinmum

I would strongly urge you not to put yourself undue pressure like this.

If you try to make the whole process a "bit more scientific" you will only stress yourself and your man completely out. Rigourous timing of intercourse is rarely a good idea and can harm relationships; men can in particular end up feeling used.

Make love when you both feel like it; two or three times a week throughout the month is fine.

A woman can ovulate earlier, later or not at all in ANY given cycle. It is certainly not the case at all that women always ovulate around 14 days before the start of their next period.

I would say as well that, generally speaking, fertility does decline with age so it may well take you longer second time around in any event.

Yes, but that said, there are days when you are fertile and days when you are not.
The best time is the 3-4 days before you ovulate - it's just a case of knowing when that is!

My general plan was to 'try' every other day a week after my period started to a week before my next one was due. You are likely to concieve between those times, just depends on wheter you can be bothered to do it that much!

Hi

Sorry for late reply - been mad here.

Thanks for your guidance - and please be assured that I'm not gonna stand next to me man with a clip board shouting 'NOW! Move! It's time!'. Gonna be chilled about it although dh is advocating the 'do it as much as we possibly can' approach. Wonder why?

Why do you need to be more scientific this time? Is there a thread I've not seen? If you conceived quickly last time, you might do so again. I wouldn't worry about it unless it doesn't happen in a few months. Try every 2 or 3 days, and more if you fancy it!

I'm not worried about it - its just that last time was a surprise conceiving so quick with no thought at all to 'ovulation', 'counting days' and 'trying'.

Now that we are trying for number 2, just trying to maximise chances....
