Ideally after as you are more likely to get an accurate result.

I bought those early response ones and did it about 3 days before period due each month!

Funnily enough, when I actually was pregs, I did three tests. One the day AF was due, one after that and the third one was about 4 days after I was due and that was positive - but only with a faint line.....
