Starflower oil - whats that all about?

I've seen it mentioned loads on here but don't really know what it is supposed to do - can anyone enlighten me?

Just posted this on the 'What makes CM thin' thread...

I've been taking starflower oil this month and it has definitely thinned my cm - first month of eggwhite in 7 months of ttc! Starflower oil is like evening primrose oil but has a higher concentration of gla - don't understand the science but believe it works!

Only take between cd1 and ovulation though as something in it can cause uterine contractions I think...

Think gla is generally good for balancing hormones etc. so worth taking even if you have plenty of eggwhite!

Am buying starflower oil tomorrow! How much should I take? I think I have a CM problem!

I took 1000 mg per day which contains 240 mg of gla. (Had read a suggestion that you take 1500 to 3000 mg of evening primrose oil which contains less than half the gla, so figured 1000mg of starflower oil would be enough) Good luck!
By the way, I looked in the chart gallery on fertility friend at charts for those who don't have eggwhite cm, there are still loads of pregnancies, think it's just that the window of opportunity is much smaller and your dh / dp needs extra strong swimmers!!

I got my starflower oil from Holland and Barrett - it's displayed with the Evening Oil of Primrose.

I originally read about it on fertilityfriend.com - in one of the circles - sorry don't know which one!

Karen99, there is a link at the top of the page to a list of all the acronyms (under 'useful stuff'), but cd1 is cycle day 1 (i.e. first day of period) and cm is cervical mucus (sometimes cf - cervical fluid which is slightly nicer sounding but not much!).
