Results of 21 day blood test for ovulation

Hello everyone. Anyone else had the so called 21 day blood test to check they are ovulating? Mine wasn't strictly a 21 day test as my cycle is longer than average and slightly varied so I did it 7 days after ovulation which is apparently the best way. My GP said all was fine but when I called to get the actual results I was told my results were 26 which she said was 'perfect' and that anything over 20 was fine. However everything I've read online says to successfully maintain a pregnancy it should be 30 or more.

Can anyone share their thoughts/experiences? I know my GP is the trained expert but just need to hear it from someone else! Also looking for a reason as to why I'm not pregnant yet..! I'm taking vits, we are BD at the right time, etc. so frustrating! Do I need to get my husband checked out?

When my 7 day post-ovulation test came back as 26 my doctor described it as 'borderline'. She said that I very probably did ovulate and that the test was probably done on the wrong day... I'm not pregnant yet either though Hmm Worth getting a sperm analysis done - was very easy for my dh to do and at least it rules out sperm issues. Good luck!

Thanks for the input BalancingStick, think I'll wait this month and next then break the news to him...

Hi Ladies. Am in a similar position to you Happily - last three cycles have varied from 29-32 days, so this month I'm having blood tests on days 21, 24 and 27 to try to cover all bases. Day 24 is tomorrow and then am doing 27 on Friday as they don't offer appointments on Saturday.

Last time doc said the reading was 16, she said that was borderline or probably taken on the wrong day, so not impossible that I am ovving, but like you I have read that it should be 30.

I've had ultrasound and internal scans so know that PCOS/ endo aren't the issue.

Had Husband checked out and he was fine, worth doing just so you can rule it out alongside having your checks done.

good luck all.

Thanks smogsville, let us know how you get on won't you? To get my husband checked do we just make a GP appointment? Do we have to wait a certain amount of time with the NHS unless we consider going private? Just need a pointer as to where to start.

Ps have you been trying for a while or just being very proactive?!

The month I conceived mine was 22. It's not that accurate and if you didn't get it bang on it could be because it was on the way up or back down as the peak is really short. It sounds OK to me.

Thank you doobeedee, that's so reassuring.

My peak was on 5dpo as opposed to 7dpo and so I always got borderline results until I had a monitored cycle.

Happily I'm very impatient is all. Just can't be doing with waiting and wondering. Arguably if I could calm down a bit it might happen!

I told doc we'd been off pill since November when I went to see her around march (I think). She didn't make a fuss about it not being a year, maybe because we already have one so it's weird that it's taking ages? Who knows - they were happy to help with preliminary investigations, said that if it gets to November and still nothing she will 'refer me', presumably to a fertility clinic or gyno? Which will probably mean a massive wait for an appointment and I'll be scraping around behind the sofa for money to speed it up and see someone privately.

DH is 42 so not ancient but not a spring chicken bless him, maybe that's why they agreed to test him?

I was referred at the end of November and me and DH decided that if we didn't have an appointment after 6 months, we'd go private. we had our appointment on the 12th of Dec, got a prescription for Clomid which I started on the 24th and got my BFP on the 23rd of Jan! I guess it depends on the waiting lists in different areas though.

Interesting. Mine was 28.5, and the GP said that ideally it should be above 30, so was "nearly" OK. We might not have got the right day, so I've just had another test. It will be interesting to see what this one says, as I'm now charting, and my temps tell me I've ovulated and that my temp was good and high on test day.

Knew my GP was wrong! Stubborn let me know how you get on. Not sure I'll retest, guess 26 means I have ovulated but maybe just a mis-timed test.

Oh dear...got my results for the 2nd test back. 23.9 Sad. And it was definitely taken on 7DPO- going by my temperatures, which showed a clear post-ovulation rise. Crapsticks.

Oh dear that's rubbish, stubborn. But at least you can pinpoint where you've been going wrong. Doesn't sound like the end if the world. What's the next step? Will they prescribe you something that will improve it? Is it Clomid?

Ideal is over 30 but many say over 20 is fine. I don't think it's anything to worry about. As I said before, the month I conceived, mine was 22.

The GP called back this morning. She's working on getting me a referral to the fertility clinic- God, the hoops you have to jump through!

(although of course I'm taking your experience to heart doubledee, and keeping on shagging Grin)

That's good news stubborn, let us know how you get on, would be interested to know what they suggest. I thought they would just put you on meds to sort your ovulation out...
