Coil will be coming out on Friday, what do I need to know?

I'm having my copper coil out on Friday to start ttc#1. I've already started to take folic acid. I'm also taking evening primrose oil after reading that it's good for thickening the womb lining.
What else should I be doing? Has anyone here had a copper coil removed? Does it hurt? Mine was very painful on the way in and I am dreading the removal.

I was really surprised because I found the insertion really painful. Post childbirth I had a replacement put in and didn't feel it at all though! Hope it all goes well for you.

I can't tell you how pleased I am to hear that! Mine hurt like hell on the way in!
Is there anything else anyone thinks I should be doing apart from taking the folic acid and evening primrose?

We have been ttc since the 14th of Feb 2013 when I removed the copper
iud that I had had since 10th April 2008.

My doctor ordered me to do an HSG test early this year and it showed my uterus and tubes are all
normal. However when I did hormonal tests, it came out that my body
produces many immature eggs (oestradial level) !!!!! Is there any other way besides taking clomid? I do not like drugs.

Confused and sad waiting to hear from you mums.

Hi folic - I had mine out about a month ago. I had the mirena though. Take a few paracetamols before hand, to ease the cramps after.

It didn't hurt for me but I could defiantly feel it coming through the cervix. Was uncomfortable.

The doctor did say I could have been pregnant within 3 weeks. Sadly didn't happen and on round 2 of ttc already.

Good luck :)

Hiya. I bled a bit after having my coil out. .. but nothing like when I had it in. I actually walked home afterwards (2 miles) when I was expecting to need a taxi. Please be aware that your period will possibly start a day or 2 later than when you had the coil. This is because the coil tends to make your period longer by a day or so at each end. I had one month of seeing what my body was doing and now I am on my first 2 week wait

Thanks everyone for your replies. I will be right in the middle of my cycle on coil removal day. As it's copper, I'm hoping not to have much disruption to my normal cycle, which is usually 33 days. It didn't change at all when I had it fitted so am hoping that's a good sign.
I was speaking to a newly pregnant colleague at work today when it suddenly hit me that could hopefully be me soon! I've been with DH a very long time and it's very scary and exciting to be finally going for it! The plan is to just relax, have fun and see what happens. I bet my good intentions won't last and I'll be obsessing in no time!!

abaho I really don't know the answers to any of your questions sorry. Ttc is very new to me and I have no clue about hormone tests, clomid etc. it might be worth starting a new thread, specific to your situation. There seem to be lots of lovely, helpful and experienced ladies around mumsnet and I'm sure you will get some great advice. Best of luck Shamrock

Be aware that if you have sex in the week before your coil is removed there is a chance you could fall pregnant this cycle even though it was 'protected' at the time.

Mine didn't hurt coming out at all. A little cough and it was done. I found it pretty unpleasant going in so was very pleased!

I also got pregnant in under a month so mine is a very cheering story! I did have rather a lot of sex that month Wink

I had no bleeding after it came out- tiny bit of spotting maybe? Oh and I did take some paracetamol beforehand.

So it's out!!! A bit uncomfortable but nowhere near as painful as it was going in.
Nothing to do now but hop to it I guess! Thanks again for all your advice. Whish me luck?

When I had mine removed I was pregnant 2 wks later (having previously been told having kids would be very tricky so not being smug)

Good luck.

Ps. I just one put back after dc#2. Barely noticed it Blush. Had to have a general anaesthetic for the first one pre kids!

The nurse did mention that I could fall this cycle chicken. That freaked me out a bit!! It would be lovely but I'm going to try not to get my hopes up too much.
I will definitely have another coil in the future - good to know the second time around is less painful.
