Conception

Faint positive or am I imagining things?

Had an early miscarriage almost five weeks ago.

Been ttc since about a week after. No sign of AF. Some minor symptoms such as mild nausea, pmt like mood swings.

Poas tonight - a wee cheap test from super drug. In the result window there was one very clear line and one very very very faint pink line.

The remaining unused test has no lines visible - no matter how hard I look.

Could this be a positive or do some tests so this very faint line after use?

I had loads of bfns last time including a similar faint positive last time and took a while to get a clear result. Last time round I also felt more pg with lots of cramps and twinges but nothing this time!

Hi kitkat, congratulations I hope! They say a line is a line however faint and its very, very uncommon to get a fake positive (whereas fake negatives are more likely). Personally I think this sounds very hopeful. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Will you do another test tomorrow?

POAS again this morning - thought that doing it first thing might give a clearer result but nope - still the same extremely faint line - maybe slightly clearer than yesterdays one.

Will wait until the weekend before taking another one - will just get one of the digital ones as at least they give you a straight answer!!

I would ring docs, they will give you a blood test to check hcg levels are increasing. That way you will definitely know positive is a new pregnancy? Put your mind at rest? Xx

Going to the doctors for a blood test is a very good idea. Doing a digital test is also a good idea. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. I still think a line is a line though... X

Just bear in mind that after a miscarriage you can still have traces of HCG in your urine for a few weeks afterwards. Good luck and hope it is a true positive.

Thanks all.

I don't want to waste the dr's time just now so will wait a few days and see how things go.

Ladyboluna - I did a test a week after mc and it was negative.

My HCG levels were very low - 2 days after mc they were down at 6 from 37 so I don't think there will be any remaining.

Sounds like it must be a new pregnancy if you have had a negative. Hopefully if you test again in a few days the line will be darker.

Sorry kit kat didn't realise you'd done a test previously! Then a lines a line and I'm sure all will be fine! Congrats!!

Fingers crossed.

I feel very nauseous again today - can't stop burping - I'm hoping this is a sign!

Superdrug ones are v sensitive. I had a very faint positive at 6dpo with DS.

DH said I was imagining it. But the next day there was a stronger line and the faint line is now eating biscuits next to me.

With DD I had a very strong positive at 11dpo.

Have another go today if you don't want to bother the docs.

Fingers crossed for you Grin

Really MrsFlorrick?- that's good to know.

With my mc I didn't get a positive until I was over a week late - I had loads of negatives.

It was one of the clear blue digital tests that finally gave me my positive so going to pick some up tonight and test again.

The frustrating thing is that because of the mc, I don't know when I ovulated but we started ttc a week after. If I get a bfn I'm going to invest in some of the ovulation testing kits.

Will update on results later!

So now I'm even more confused. Popped out to Asda and picked up a CB digital (the test that finally confirmed my last ill fated pregnancy after several negatives and the one the gave me a negative a few days post mc).

Also grabbed a pack of asda's own £1 dip test.

Tried them both. The CB one says not pregnant but the Asda one definitely has a faint pink link - I'd say it's even clearer than the ones I got on the superdrug tests (I've uploaded a picture to my profile - see what you think!)

Now either the cheapo Asda made in China one is more sensitive than the CB and I'm pregnant or still have hcg levels after mc 5 weeks ago or I am pg but not as far a long as I would expect (I'd guessed 3 weeks since conception based on a 2 week period post mc for ovulation to kick in again but that's all guess work).

So what do we think - is there definitely a line - or is this horrid cold making me hallucinate??

And if there is a line, what do I do now? Wait a few days and test again to be sure or phone Dr/EPU for an appointment (I've to get an 7 week scan if I conceive again due to the mc)

Help!!!

I can see a line!!! You might want to get your bloods done just to make sure hcg is rising rather than falling. Seems unlikely it's remaining hcg, especially as even the most sensitive tests can only detect 10 and above! Oooooo fx for you and [whispers] congrats!!!!

Yes that's a line! Congratulations :)

I agree about getting the bloodtest for confirmation. Good luck with the pregnancy!

I can definitely see a line,congratulations.
I would wait a few days then see the GP .I'm sure if you do an early morning test in a few days and all is well you will get a brighter line like the control one.

Thanks all - good to know I'm not seeing things!

That's interesting Luckystar - I wasn't sure what the sensitivity levels were for these tests.

Will wait until the weekend and test again in the morning. It does worry me that I'm getting faint results again though as it was the same last time when I had a mc and I wonder if the low hormone levels were the cause.

Feel a bit bad for the amount of alcohol I drank last week too - although that was after a bfn so I though it was ok! Ooops!

Digital tests are rubbish. Not very sensitive and can be up to 10 days out either direction.
Poundshop cheapie are among the most sensitive.
If you had BFN since you MC then this is probably a new PG. As others have said, a blood test is the way to go. Either that or get some cheap tests and do one every other day and see if the lines get darker.
Tentative congratulations. x

That's a line! Tentative Congratulations. x

I got pg just after a mc and the Dr didn't see the need to do bloods or an early scan (so I went for a private scan).

Two digi tests are cheaper on amazon, and waiting for the post should hopefully put you off doing anymore (says she who did a test everday for 14days!).

Thanks saggyoldclothcatpuss.

I'm now sitting on the sofa scared to move in case I mc again - that's if I'm even pg!!!

Fingers crossed for a clearer result by the weekend!

I think perhaps my hormones are still playing up post mc.

Will do I've more tomorrow with fmu and if that's negative I'll just need to wait for AF and try again!
