Hi all.
Need some advice as going slightly crazy over here.
Had a Msc on the 5th September 2013 at 6 weeks. All symptoms disappeared and felt fine again.
This Monday (16th) I left work early as I felt disgusting and sick - thought the kids had bought home some germs from their return to school. I've had all week off work as couldn't move without feeling like I was going to throw up. Heartburn followed, and put this down to period coming as I have pregnancy symptoms in lead up to period every month.
Didn't think anything of it until my friend said 'you sound pregnant to me'
So I did a pregnancy test yesterday morning and this morning and had a really strong immediate second line.
All symptoms still here... But is it even physically possible to get pregnant so quickly or is my body just playing an evil trick on me?
Reassurance and guidance much appreciated. Confused Confused

Did you definately miscarry before? My sister had this with 2 successful pregnancies, apparently the doctor told her sometimes there can be 2 fertilized eggs and just 1 comes away. did you have medical intervention before?

Hello. Yes I had a scan at the early pregnancy unit. They said there was nothing there.
All seems a bit strange to meShock

Did you have a scan to confirm MC? (I'm not sure if they can scan that early) Did the bleeding last long?

Yes.. Scan to confirm miscarriage.
Also had scans that early with my youngest.. At that stage a sac is/was visible.... Well for me anyways.

Did you have a scan with your m/c? A peg test can stay positive for a while after. Not impossible to be preg again but given the short time scale I'd think it unlikely. I'd leave it a couple of weeks and test again or see your gp. So sorry for your loss.

I don't want to give false hope, but I guess it's possible something so small could be missed on a scan. Also theoretically non-identical twins might be possible I guess, you could have had another one already in development but too small to see. (A small chance but I suppose it might be possible).

I'm guessing again here but another possibility might be ectopic, perhaps that's why they didn't see it on the scan, and if so that's dangerous so you'd need to get checked out.

Also I imagine there's no reason why you shouldn't be pregnant so early, as your body can make two eggs at a time.

In your shoes I wouldn't get your hopes up too much as your body could well be playing a cruel trick on you, but you shouldn't ignore the possibility that there might be a bean still there, get to the doctors!

Keeping fingers crossed for you xx

I think you should phone your gp/early pregnancy unit about it.

I had a m/c just before I went on holiday to France. They told me to buy a test in France to check it was negative as they were worried about an ectopic pregnancy for some reason (my hormone level had still been quite high I think). If it had still been positive they told me to go to a doctor in France and tell them. So I don't want to alarm you, and this may be an entirely different scenario, but I just think you need to check this out with someone.

The absolute earliest you can get a positive pregnancy test is three weeks after your LMP (normally more like 4). So if you consider the mc equivalent to a period you are still too early to have a positive test.

Also to be blunt, have you been having sex in that time?

As you've already been in (I'm assuming) I would ring the EPU direct and tell them the situation. Could be ectopic, could be remaining twin or something else.

Did you get a negative test after your mc? I was still getting strong positive tests two weeks after I started bleeding. I'm not sure how long there was a line after that as i found it too upsetting to keep testing. I still had symptoms for a while too.

The hormones stay in you body for a few week after and you will still get a positive test until after they have gone. I would suggest its a false positive, however phone the dr/EPAU and see what they think.

How long did you bleed for tho? With each if my 6 mc I've bled for around 2 weeks. And as another poster said have you been having sex since the mc? It would be very strange to have a new pregnancy now but maybe if you are it was a twin pg?

It is too early for it to be a new pregnancy. If you continue to get positive results you need to get checked out to ensure the miscarriage is complete. If it isn't you may need a minor operation to remove any placenta left behind. How did you have the mc, was it natural or medical management or erpc? I still had positive tests after two weeks but they were not so strong lines any more by that point.

Thanks all for your input.
The tests are getting stronger which is strange (not using first morning wee) . Got an appointment 2moro afternoon to find out what's going on, so I'll let you know.
As for pregnancy testing I've always had a positive (when I've been pregnant) at 10 days past conception... So I guess it depends on when a woman generally ovulates in her cycle and how strong the Hcg level is, which varies from person to person...
So I guess I've been fortunate to test positive so early in the past, probably explains why I have strong symptoms very early on?

You didn't answer the question regarding bleeding, but i am wondering if perhaps it was a twin pregnancy and the second baby is ok?

So.....
Following scan they say it's a new pregnancy based on size of sac, but because it's so early they can't see any developing cells... So I have to go back next week for another scan to see that there's progress.
They say they've seen it before and said following mc is a highly fertile time.
I'm not sure what to think atm tbh, and reluctant to believe anything other than its all going to go horribly wrong and not develop into anything!

Thank you lighthousesea... It's really stressful... Not having the best time at home either so right now I feel like hiding in a dark room until I have some idea of what's happening moving forward... However a full time job and my little ladies await me, so just gotta keep on keeping on.!!!

WithACherryOnTop I am almost in the same position as you apart from the knowing what is happening part. I had brown spotting 24-27 Aug and bleeding and loss of pregnancy 2-7 Sept. I was not sure of my dates but was told that I had not retained products and the tests done at the hospital were negative. Blood tests also showed my hcg levels falling.

I had some pains last week as well as light brown spotting, tested and got a positive result. I tested again today and everyday and it is still positive. I have my appointment with a fertility specialist tomorrow and not sure what to say really. Hoping they'll refer me for a scan.

I have read plenty of posts about people testing positive 2-3 weeks after MC and going on to have their children. Best of luck Xx

Oh wow bugoven..... That is an identical situation!! I really hope you have the best possible news... The waiting is horrible, but fingers crossed for both of us that the outcome will be worth it.
I've found a few forums now where women have been in exactly the same position, so it just goes to show that anything really is possible, and the human body can be unpredictable and do things we never thought of.
I'm assuming that for some reason I ovulated sooner than I usually would.
But anyways.. Best of luck to you, please keep me updated on how you get on. Xxxxxxxxxxx

Thank you. Still testing positive this morning.
I said to my OH "I think I'm ovulating" a couple of days after I stopped bleeding and as the MC could have started weeks before that with all my symptoms I suppose it's possible. Plus I feel exactly the same as I did last time apart from sore boobs.
I'll let you know how I get on. It may be a CP or lingering hormones but a teeny tiny bit of me thinks not.
Thank you and good luck =)
