getting pregnant with pcos

hi. i have just joined here, im hoping to here some success stories. me and my partner have been trying for a baby for about 6 months so not really long but i hardly have periods so im assuming im not ovulating regularly either and i have pcos, i have been to the docs and told him we have been trying for over a year because i dont want to have to wait another 6 months before the doc will even entertain helping me get pregnant, i have had to have a swab and do a pee sample because the fertility clinic wont give me an appointment until they know i dont have any stis, i did the swab and that came back fine and i did my pee sample but because i didnt put my date of birth on the bottle they wouldnt test it so its took a month just for them to send me a letter telling me i need to get in touch with them for another test and for them to send the test out and me to send it back, im still waiting for the results but im sure they will be clear and then i have to be referred again to the fertility clinic by my doc and hopefully then i will get my appointment, im getting so impatient and every month i dont have a period and i do a pregnancy test and get a negative result i just get more and more down. can anyone tell me what the fertility clinic are likely to do when i finally get to see them?

Hiya I have just been diagnosed with pcos after trying for 7months now. Already have a little boy who's nearly 3. Have you had ultrasound? And blood tests yet for hormone?

I have pcos too. I also have a 2yr old. it took 18months and some weightloss along with agnus castus and metformin for me to conceive him. So it can happen but can be a rather more 'scenic route' than for others.

sorry, forgot to add that I haven't been to a fertility clinic (yet) but my gp was able to do blood tests to check for ovulation, perscribe metformin and advised a low carb way of eating. There is a really good website if you Google Verity pcos and they have loads of info on treatment.

nearly I'm currently waiting for my cd21 blood results and still have to have my cd1-5 test. I've had ultrasound which showed my right ovary is really and but left isn't as bad. Is clomid one of the treatments?

I didn't have ANY periods for about 3 years after being diagnosed 6 years ago. I was told that conceiving without assistance would probably not happen but wasn't in a position to worry about it.

Well, I'm currently 5 months pregnant! It was very much a shock especially as I wasn't menstruating but it happened. Stay hopeful and good luck! x

army at the time my gp said if the weightloss and met didn't work then a referral gynae would be the next step and that they would probaby offer clomid.
I should also add that since I had ds I don't seem to have a problem getting pregnant but staying pregnant is posing a problem . I don't know if this is something to do with pcos or something completely different.

Ohhh I see. It is a issue I think whilst you have pcos that chance of miscarriage is increased.. That's one thing I'm worried about when it happens. I think my option would be clomid as I'm not suffering with weight or insulin problems. My doc doesn't think I'm ovulating either. How long have you had it?

I was told I had it when I was 19. originally I thought great! lack of periods suited me fine and I def didn't want children. at that stage I had no other symptoms so didnt really worry about it. I was on dianette for longer than I should have been but had no ill effects. Fast forward 10 years and it all changed
I think there is a thread for people trying to conceive with clomid.
I'm waiting on my appointment for recurrent miscarriage testing. Hopefully they will have some answers.

I have PCOS. After a year of trying, I started Agnus Castus. Another 7 months and woo, pregnant. Been a rough road, but now 34w2d with DS.

I lost about 2st in that time too.

My first child took about 8 months to conceive after a miscarriage.

I was told after ds2 that I probably wouldn't have anymore and had resigned myself to that fact. I fell really easily with first 2 but 3 years later I was surprised that I am now 25 weeks with ds3. Was on metformin for a year before but as we gave up it happened! Keep faith I know how awful and disheartening every month that goes by can become xx

I had a laparoscopy when I was younger to diagnose PCOS so was referred automatically to fertility clinic when trying to conceive. At the clinic they tested DP ( sperm sample) and I was put on Clomid. Have DS1 and DS2 both here using Clomid and DD who was a complete surprise as we made her all on our own. The two pregnancies before had obviously kick started my cycle. Good luck op, I found the staff at the clinic lovely and supportive, very professional.

I have PCOS and am lucky enough to have 2 children. The 1st was conceived naturally and I think this was due to me having lost a lot of weight (2 and a half stone). We were not actively trying, but I came off the pill in the November and was pregnant by the July. I did not have a single period between coming off the pill and falling pregnant.

2nd baby was harder to come by, by this time I was a lot heavier and really struggled to lose the weight. We were referred to a fertility clinic and we both had to have tests. Me - blood, ultra sound and my tubes flushed with a dye to check for blockages. I was then given clomid and was successful on my 4th round.

Dd is 5 and ds is 7 months.

I think it is really important to remain positive and I really believe my weight was a big factor in conceiving for me.

kim how did u find the metformin? hope you don't mind me asking buy were you on it for weight loss? This is my second week and I have just upped the dose, the second tablet causing massive tummy upset. trying to work out if its worth it.
