Negative OPK therefore no ovulation?

TTC #2 and used OPK this month. Got ICs and Clearblue digital.

Started using ICs CD13 as I was expecting to ovulate on CD17. I moved onto CB tests CD16 and am now on CD20 with all negative tests despite increasing the frequency of testing from CD17 as I was concerned I was missing the LH surge.

Does this mean I haven't ovulated? I've had some EWCM (but not as much as I used to get) and I thought I had ovulation pain yesterday (CD19) but tests suggest otherwise.

The packet says the test is 99% accurate and they worked very well for me previously.

I'm frightened that I'm not ovulating which I assume doesn't bode well for my hopes for another baby

Hi Pasta, personally, I'd wait until next month, and this time try it every day from a day after your AF leaves (so about CD9), then test twice day from then so try and catch either side of the LH surge, it will also give lenience for if the firs test of day failed... Then if you get the same next month then make an appointment with your GP to discuss your concerns. It may just be that you had a faulty test, and then the one done 24hrs later just didn't pickup the surge as it was already over. Try not to worry yourself in the meantime though, if your AF is still coming, then your obviously still ovulating :)

Do you think? I thought you could still get regular AF without ovulating?? I was expecting to ovulate Friday and I tested after working really hard in the gym so wondering if urine concentration was weird as I'd been sweating a lot . When I pulled the test strip out there was a definite line despite the empty circle but not as dark as control line. I then tested again 24 hours later and got negative again.

I will do as you suggest next month and see where it leaves me.

You are right Pasta - you can still get your period without ovulating.

The only way you can really tell if you've ovulated is if you have had a temp rise. The opks only sense the hormone, which you can get without ovulation.

It is quite possible to have periods without ovulating.

I would seriously consider not using the OPKs any more as using these can just cause more stress and confusion. Also such kits are beset with problems anyway; these kits assume that there is only one rise in LH every month (not true) and that such a rise is immediately followed by ovulation (again not true).

The surest way of knowing whether ovulation has occurred or not is to have blood tests done. Temp rise is not infallible; a woman can have a temp rise in the second part of her cycle when an egg has not been shed.

I think there is sound sense in what you say Atilla. I was in tears over this last night which isn't in my nature at all.

I'm going to try again with temp chart and OPK next month despite your sound advice as I need to know if I'm ovulating. I feel I can relax a bit and be a bit more patient and not use them in subsequent months if I've seen for myself I am ovulating.

Like Mirai I'm going to try am and pm for the whole cycle albeit the not going to the loo for 4 hours in advance is hard!

Hi, not sure if it will help but I read a post on another site from a natural fertility expert on how to tell when you are fertile. It was all about recognising your bodies signs leading up to fertility, I found it very interesting, good to get back to basics sometimes! Not sure if it will help but may be worth a read or alternatively you could always contact the lady and ask a question about your ovulation. the link to the post is forum.prideangel.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=537 Hope it helps in some small way! Good luck xxx

BIG OMG, I'm really sorry! I feel guilty that I've naively given you incorrect information now! I'll have to go back to school me thinks as I've always thought, and from everything I've read in trying to conceive that you didn't get a period if your not ovulating! :( Sorry Pasta!

I would still personally go with the OPK's for another month or so just to ensure it wasn't that you just missed the surge, but test more frequently to ensure you catch it, and if still nothing then make an appointment with your GP... Sorry again for causing confusion! :( :) x

I just wanted to update this post because I read a lot in the archive before posting so wonder if anyone else will come across this in the future.

Having failed all month to get a smily face I have got a BFP this week! Clearly OPKs were not very accurate in my case!
