Helllooooo ladies

Personal question but I've seen MORE personal questions on here soooooo...

Wondering how often people are having sex when trying to conceive?

Me and hubby saw a dip in our sex life over the last year due to work, shifts, wedding planning.nightshifts, working away... We were lucky to have sex once a month at one point!

Anyway... We are married now and work seems to have calmed down.. Which is very very lucky because we are now TTC! We have more time on our hands and WANT sex again.. And not just for baby making ;)

So anyway... My question.. How often are you all dtd?!

Especially during your fertile time?
And the rest of the month?

Twice for DC1 and once for DC2. Plenty in between but DH was a bit disappointed both times a more conserted effort wasn't required Wink

For the last month we dtd every day up until cd21 so a week after ov, then we did it every other day except now we've given up for the month with AF due tomorrow! I think 3 times a week would be enough though? We'll find out this week if doing it this much proved to be effective! Xxx

Every day is what I'm aiming for this week (my fertile week is approaching!) however... It seems like hard work!

I'm kinda the same... Aiming for every day during fertile time then every other day after that!

ELA - blimey, you must be knackered Wink
We weren't quite so energetic - did it every other day in the week leading up to ovulation.
Sperm last up to 5 days, so dtd every 2 - 3 days will be plenty. The most fertile day is the day before ovulation anyhow.
We dtd 7 days before ovulating and our delightful DS2 is a result of that :)

I mean 7 days and then abstained for a week (DH was away on business - I thought the chance of conceiving that month were none, so was a bit shocked we got a bfp so quickly!).

Every other day is plenty. I think making sure you do it at the right time, in the week in the lead up and lay down for 5 minutes afterwards (even prop your hips up on a pillow) is more important.

Wow 7 days before! That's NOW for me!

Maybe I should get off mumsnet and dtd right now! Haha ;)

Well that's good to know... Already told hubby he has a busy week ahead! He's looking forward to it... So am I!

It's nice for us to be TTC at the same time as our work life has chilled out and our wedding is out the way (it was amazing but we were consumed with planning for months and months!)... We have all this free time to dtd and its good! We are enjoying it and hubby is up for the challenge haha x

Ok, fair point!! Twice in the fertile time - two days before ovulation and one day after - not sure which one had the magic sperm?! For DC2, I know we only had one shot due to both of us working away, once about 2 days before ovulation. Conceived first month with both of them, had been determined it would be a long old process both times for some reason?

Haha thanks.. That's what I thought you meant!

Well I think I need to get off mumsnet now and try and dtd! ;)
Fingers crossed this is my month! X

I have pretty regular cycles and reliably ovulate between days 14 and 16 of my cycle (I can feel ov and have also temped for many months so I know my cycle well).

Our method was to start trying from the end of my period (so maybe CD 7 or so) and dtd every day/every other day until a day or two after I was sure I had ovulated, and then just do it whenever we fancied it for the rest of the cycle.

Unfortunately, it didn't work for us. We are "unexplained" and needed IVF. But I think as a "method" it was sound.

If you don't know your cycle just dtd about 3 times a week throughout your cycle.

Gillian - you can't have it too much (providing you are both up for it!).

But as long as you have a fresh batch every 2 - 3 days, you'll always make sure there will be sperm where it needs to be.

Good luck and enjoy the trying :)

For optimum chances of conception, no more frequent than every 2.5 days and no less frequent than every 3.5 days is, or so I read when I was researching this, supposed to be best. Your DP's testicles need a bit of a rest in between (he's not supposed to give himself additional solo enjoyment either) to optimise the amount of sperm each time - if he is ejaculating too frequently there won't be as much sperm each time. As previous people have mentioned the fact that sperm live for a while means that your fertile window will be covered (they CAN live for up to 5 days but with increasing time number, health and motility of remaining sperm may be limited so you could miss the window if you rely on this)

Unless you are really really sure exactly what time within the month you are ovulating, it's best to keep this all month around to be certain. Some women are ovulating the egg for NEXT month's cycle at the same time as bleeding the womb lining of THIS month's cycle.

We didn't stick to this religiously in month 1, and didn't conceive. We stuck to it come what may in month 2 and conceived. YMMV of course.

Have tried many different combos over the past 20 months but generally every other day from cd8ish to cd25 and sometimes everyday around OV (CDs 14-17ish)
