Do you wait for a +ve opk before dtd?

I think I'm due to ovulate Sunday/Monday.
Clearblue smiley still not smiley, I was thinking of trying today, Saturday and Monday but don't know whether to wait to try until my opk is +ve.

Is it worth trying today or shall I wait until a bit nearer ovulation?

Absolutely not! An OPK only gives you 1-2 days warning of ovulation. You can get pg from dtd well before that. We start from AF's end until after I am sure I have oved.

The nurses at my fertility clinic have told me that you are much more likely to conceive if you have sex before ovulation. It takes the sperm a good 6 hours or so to swim up to your Fallopian tubes and as the egg will only live for 12-24 hours you are far better off having regular sex in the week before ovulation and have sperm ready and waiting for the egg.

Don't wait! Using opks will help you identify the best day (day of first smiley face and the next day) but if you wait you are missing four very good days before you get the positive.

Sex three times a week throughout your cycle, with a bonus shag thrown in on smiley face day, will give you your best chance of conception.

This is why I would always encourage regular sex rather than timed intercourse - because no home testing methods are foolproof! I think you're still in with a chance.

I'm pregnant now. I knew I tend to ovulate on the earlier side - charting and opks indicated I ovulate around CD11-15 so that cycle I simply said to DH on CD 6 and 11 Its probably around the right time, do you fancy it?! Grin I didn't see any EWCM until CD12. According to my scan dates, I conceived on CD11 so it was either the CD6 swimmers who had stuck around or a later in the day shag on CD11. Definitely don't wait! If I'd waited til I thought I was fertile I might not have conceived!

Thanks!
As it turns out my opk went smiley last night and is still smiley today. I also went for a scan today for secondary infertility (just an ultrasound not an hsg) and the radiographer said the egg follicle was about to burst so hopefully dtd today, yesterday and maybe tomorrow gives us a chance...
Or not of course, if both tubes are blocked as I suspect. But no amount of timing it just right is going to solve that problem for me Sad
