Question about coming off the pill

Hi there, I was just wondering how long it took for those ladies who came off the pill to get a 'normal' AF?

I came off the pill (Loestrin) in mid December, and haven't yet had AF, which I would have expected last week if my cycle is the average 28 days. I've no idea of my cycle length however as I was on the pill for 10 years, and didn't pay attention when I was a teenager! I was fairly sure I ovulated around new year, as I had sore boobs and EWCM. I've taken 2 pg tests but both have been BFN.

Both DH and I are going a bit crazy and not liking being in limbo very much! Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks xx

Hi, for me I bled immediately after coming off the pill (microgynon *sp) and then had first proper AF within 26 days. I know for some it is immediate and some it is much longer, have heard 40, 50 and 60 day cycles. How long have you been on the pill? FYI my cycle length before starting the pill (recognise this was over 14 years ago) was 27 or 28 days but after 9 months off it has settled down at 35 days... could it be that you have a longer cycle than you are expecting?

Hi AJ,
I've only had one 'normal' af (also came off pill in December) and that was 24 days after but I do know ppl who waited 2 or 3 months.
I hope it turns up soon so you can get out of limbo.

Hi AJ
I've been on loestrin and found (for me, please remember these things are individual) that it messed with my cycle. I was on it as well as the implant (long story) but coming off it after id had implanon removed and switching to another pill, took a while to get AF.

Hi,

I came off mycrogynon just over 3 months ago, I had a normal withdrawal bleed, but have only just has a 'proper' AF. Thank god!!! This was the first month where I felt my body getting back to normal. I was on the same pill for 8 years, and prior to that had super regular 28 day cycles. I'm hoping they get back to that soon. I did however see a homeopath (and have been taking remedies), and am taking b6, zinc and EPO. I have also heard Agnus Castus is good although I'm seeing if I get another AF next month before I try that.

Good luck x

Hi! I was on my pill for 6 years (microgynon) periods were a bit odd to start, then they became more regular. There don't seem to be any 'rules' in terms of dates to expect AF.

Just as an aside - I turned myself inside out expecting to be pg every month after I stopped taking my pill. I know it's hard not to if you waited a long time but my GP said to give my body around 6 months to settle down, it was wasted advice as I was already pg (I didn't realise it at the time). But I would have felt much more relaxed if I'd known that in the beginning. That's not to say you won't conceive before 6 months but eating well, enjoying each others company and keeping fit will all contribute to how you 'feel' during the conception process. (hope that doesn't sound 'preachy').

Thanks for your replies, I think I was expecting everyone to have different experiences if I'm honest. At least I know I'm not the only one who's been through it. And none of it was preachy don't worry!

I will just try to put it out of my mind for now and carry on as before... Although I'm sure it will be difficult!

Thanks xx

Took me 6 months! But being a pessimistic type had factored that sort of delay into the calculations & didn't start TTC till I'd had a couple of normal cycles off it...
