Ds is 4 years old and reacts negatively to sunscreen (already discussed on another thread) He also get a heat rash all over his body with very little time out in the son.
Yesterday and today he is at the seaside with his dad & friends. I'm worried he'll come back in a terrible condition and I should have looked into this before the sun came out. I have taken him to the Doctor but she wasn't very helpful. She just said keep him out of the sun. Very difficult to do when he is out having fun with friends.
Should I give him - piriton or banadryl kids syrup? Would it make him sleepy? Are there any other alternatives?
Would be grateful for all your tips and findings

Pirition is sedationg. benadryl, iirc, is cetirizine, so less likely to sedate. piriton, ime is faster acting, and you are able to dose over the day. if he's feeling poorly with it, piriton might be best.

Sorry, I'm not much help with your other q's

LOL, I only know this from experiance as I have a ds who get's his hands into everything, but is allergic to cut grass, the cleaning spray the family centre use and so on. his eyes swell up in the most alarming manner, and piriton has worked magic for me, but he has cetirizine as a preventitive in the summer as it doesn't knock him out, and piriton at night when his eczema is all itchy As for suncream.... I'm a very bad mummy a lot of the time and forget to suncream him, I just get him to keep a t-shirt on, he's inherited his father's mediterranean skin.

Ready You'll not believe this but my father was Pakistani and my mother is Spanish. All my brothers & sister have inherited their skin which strangely means we are allergic to sun/heat etc.. dad suffered from prickly heat and would not go out in the sun. Mum has sensitive skin, also stays out of the sun. Two brothers have excema as do my nephews.
Poor DS should have inherited his dad's skin which is white but loves the sun! Who would have guessed. Thank you for the tips.
Do you have to go to the Doctor & get it prescribed or can you get it over the counter for children?

you can get it over the counter for them at this age. worth comparing the prices of different brands. ds gets his cetirizine prescribed which is cheaper though

genetics are funny things aren't they! Dh is 1/4 maltease. ds and dd2 are olive skinned, brown hair and brown eyes. dd1 is fair skinned, blond and blue eyed. Thank goodness ds is the only one with eczema.
