DS and DD ill all the time

I don't want to be a moaner, but does anyone else have children who are ill all the time - not seriously, but just constant coughs and colds or rashes or high temperatures or sickness or tonsillitis? It feels like in the last month DS and DD have had all of the above. Only this weekend they have both developed really heavy colds and coughs. Will it ever end and does anyone have any tips on building up their immune systems. DS is 1 and DD is almost 3. Reassuring squeezes on the arm would be most appreciated

Yes

Mine (3 of em but youngest two are the worst) are ill in pretty much 3 week cycles in the winter. One after the other.

It is awful. It does end. DS1 is now 10 and pretty much strong as an ox but for the odd illness. I like to think they have to get everything going and then their immune systems work. I seem to remember it gets much better around 4-5 though they do get a few new bugs when they start school.

Are they in childcare or going to playgroup etc? I think this just speeds up the process of infection, so probably better to get it over with young? I have found it hard going back to work after maternity leave each time because of this though: have written off any significant achievements in first year back...

My ds used to be like this just after he started nursery and we even ended up with him seeing the paediatrician to see if anything else was going on! The dr said that it's best they get lots of illnesses out of the way while they're young because in theory they will be healthier adults. It worried us silly at the time because it was one thing after another.

Dd is at nursery now and always seems to have a cough and cold. Ho hum!

Thanks for your messages. As it happened DD was ill again over the weekend - fever, rash, cough and cold. Took her to see the GP yesterday and he diagnosed Slapped Cheek Virus. This would explain all DD's previous illness over the last few weeks. Hurrah - I feel like there might be a light at the end of the tunnel! It doesn't help that DD and DS are both at a childminders where various illnesses cross fertilise and infect each child on a daily basis! Here's to a future with no Calpol .
