Tiny bit of blood and mucous in 4 year olds poo.... not constipated

When wiping my 4 year olds bottom, I noticed small amount of blood (not bright red) on the tissue, with tiny amount of mucous/ jelly like stuff. Her diet is good and she does not have constipation problems. Should I take her to the docs?
She has had a productive cough for 3 months on and off, despite antibiotics, and is well in herself... could it be phlegm she has swallowed passing through????

Hi there,

I had this problem with DS a while back, and panicked and started to think all sorts of nasty thoughts and gave him a grilling about people touching his bottom.

Anyway, took him to doctor (after explaining that actually it was OK for doctor to touch his bottom on this occasion), she said it was probably just a small anal tear, they can get them from pushing a bit too hard even when not constipated. She gave me lactulase (I think) for him "to soften things up a bit to give everything a chance to heal) and that seemed to work.

Would say the mucus is probably phlegm passing through but check with doctor just in case. Noticed lots in DD's nappy a while back when she had one stinking cold after another
