Balanitis or something else? Willy help please!

I had to take 10 mo ds to the walk in centre today as the tip of his willy was incredibly red and swollen. The nurse there said it was balanitis but to treat it as thrush, so I came home and put canesten on it, and have given calpol and piriton as he recommended. The swelling has gone down a little but now there are what looks like 2 white open sores on the underside of his willy. The nurse said that if it got worse to take him to get anti biotics. I am assuming that this is 'worse'. I have googled, but can't find mention of sores anywhere in a despription on balanitis, so I am wondering if he actually has somehting else. Poor ds has had a trrible time with his skin, he has molluscum which has recently spread into his nappy area, so I wonder if this could have irritated things? He is sound asleep (finally) after a really dreadful day of crying so it is obviously causing him pain. Should I call out the doctor? Or shall I just take him to the hospital walk in centre first thing?

Sorry no experience here (1 x DD) but this seems like the kind of thing that NHS Direct should be able to help with?

Thanks Barbara
I can't get through to NHS direct. The bloody phone won't even ring before it cuts off

I would call the out of hours doctor. if concerned they'll ask you to go to an out of hours clinic, if not you'll be re-assured.

Hope he's better soon

Aw LL that's rubbish! Yes, agree with MiniEgg, make a phone call to out of hours doctors instead, I've often found that they are quite receptive to a call for advice rather than a call just to get an appt IYSWIM.

Hope DS improves soon.

My Ds had balanitis, red swollen penis and did no wees overnight (vv unusual), cleared up with antibiotics. But there were no sores,so that definitely needs checking. if he is asleep now I would leave him and if no improvement in the morning go to the drop in centre or A&E if you are really concerned. It is worrying isn't it!

LadyIsabella, it really is. Not having a penis myself I have no clue really as to what to do. Finally got through, they said someone will ring me back but it will be at least 4 hours He is still fast asleep though which is a major improvement on last night so I plan to change him as soon as he wakes up and see how things look. I've no option but to wait until morning anyway as I don't drive, but I just don't like knowing he's in pain

Ds1 had balanitis and he had antibiotics which cleared it up in no time.
