Sick AGAIN!

Ugh!

I woke up during the night feeling very sick and thought nothing of it, but DS2 has got up and vomited a few times. DS1, DD and DH are all fine, I feel ok now that I've had something to eat but DS2 is very peely-wally looking and still vomiting.

I feel like my kids have been constantly sick for months. It all started with chickenpox in October. Just now, we're just getting over a 2 week-long bout of impetigo and hand, foot & mouth which kept us stuck at home. Before that they all had heavy colds. Before that we had tummy bugs. Before that it was something else ad finitum, every single week. DS is at school and seems to be missing the worst of it but DS2 and DD both attend nursery a couple of days a week and are picking up every single bug that goes around.

What can I do? The kids eat well, they sleep well, when they're well they are out for lots of fresh air and sunshine. Their immune systems appear to be non-existant though! I'm getting really frustrated with this.

Any hints, tips, advice?

Have you tried probiotics? They are genius, get a really good one in powder form that you can hide in food or milk. We use acidophilus after I lost the will to live with my DD and her 6th round of antibiotics in 3 months.

I was told on here by an excellently helpful MNer that the immune system is controlled via the gut so if your DCs have had tummy upsets they will be in no position to fight any other infections. I started Dalivit drops and probiotics in January and it is now April and we have had no tummy upsets or infections - TOUCH WOOD!!

Give them a go, they will make a massive difference to the kids and you!

Do you know I would never have thought to give the kids probiotics and yet I've considered them for ourselves. Probiotic yoghurt would serve the same purpose I guess? I'll pick some up next time I'm at the shops.

I think to do the job properly you need the powder but I am sure yogs would do you fine.

I'll get the powder in that case - I am just so over them being ill! Thanks for the tip

You are most welcome. I know where you are coming from, for the last two years we seem to start in September with colds, ear infections, tummy bugs, etc and run till April. I am so pleased I found the nice lady who told me to stop antibiotics and start probiotics.

DD has an upset tummy today, I expect she ate some snails or similar at nursery, so in with the acidophilus for the next few weeks!

Hope you all get better soon, it is so draining, xx
