Hi I'm new to mumsnet so please excus me if i babble.
My 11 month old DS2 ha been a sickly baby since birth. over the lst two months he has become more unsettled, constipated for a few days followed by diarrhea. Te Dr suggested milk intolerance so put him on infasoy ok for 1 wek them started vomited then told try wysoy again he was ok for week and half then started vomiting. He is now vomiting around 40 minutes after anything passes his lips. The only thing I have mangaed to keep in him is watered down formula and only 2 ounces at a time. The Dr has now prescribed renatadine for ? pyloric stenosis.
Is this right? I've never heard of this diagnosed at nearly 1 year old.(hmm)
Any help gratefully accepted!

I've not heard of it in children nearing a year but have done a quick search on google and it is possible - Will Ferrell was operatated on when he was close to a year.

Also it's very unusual for pyloric stenosis to be treatable with medication, if it is PS it will mostly likely need surgery.

Your DR should have booked him in for an ultrasound/xray so that they can get the readings for his pyloric muscle or find out if their is another physical reason for the throwing up.

The big risk of course is dehydration so I would record carefully how much and when and what he is drinking, also wet nappies and bowel movements, also if he appears dehydrated I'd take him right to A and E. Maybe try some jelly or soft non milk food to see if he can hold it down. Is he interested in eating/drinking?

Hope this helps, one of my charges was dx with PS when he was 12 days and had an operation the next day and made a full recovery.

Hello vikmum.

Your ds cannot have pyloric stenosis at his age. It presets up to 6-8 weeks of age with projectile vomiting that gets worse and worse and can make babies very ill due to the dehydration. It is diagnosis by examination at the time of a feed and an USS and blood tests to show the degree of dehydration and alkalosis of the blood due to the stomach acid lost with the vomiting.

Ranitidine is often tried along with gaviscon for gastro-oesophageal reflux and I can only think that that is what your doc is treating although it sounds much more like your ds has an intercurrent illness making him sick which is making the original problem worse iyswim.

To repeat, your ds does not have PS, he is far too old and if your doc is suggesting it then he/she is mad .
