How long can a tummy bug last?

Dd who's 4 and a half started to be sick at 10.30pm on tuesday, and after that more or less regurlarly (just bile or water) until 7.30pm.
She wasn't sick at all last night although sipping sweet water.
This morning she really wanted to have breakfast cereal but I gave her dried toast instead which she didn't eat.
She had a few bits of fruit from a fruit cocktail tin, and puked it back up an hour later.
What can I give her, and how long does she need to stay off "normal" food (dairy, etc...)

i saw your other thread, is this her first bug.

I can remember when my dd had her first bug at 18mnths she was quite poorly. it seemed to linger for a while.

does she go to nursery as i also found whilst she was at nursery, she would get a mild illness then it would get worse if i took her back too early.

have you tried bananas, or ice lollies just to get a bit of fluid in her.

No her second bug. She was 22 months when she got her first bug.
But she was only sick about 5 times then, that's why I'm asking because she has been sick loads of times this time around.
No she doesn't go to nursery she goes to school and she's off at the moment.

some of these bugs are nasty, last year dd had it for 3 or 4 days. fruit might be abit acidic if she has nothing in her tummy. maybe try again with the toast or a banana? have you got any dioralite (sp?)

Yeah she was sipping on that a lot yesterday, and thankfully kept it down.
I steamed some basmati rice I might try and give her that for lunch. Plain like that on its own.

Ds started vomiting at 7.30am on Sunday morning. He had diarrhea later that day. We are now on day 5 and although no physical evidence, he is still complaining of a severe tummy ache. DD started midnight 2 nights ago and was still vomitting in the early hours of this morning (no diarrhea though). DH was up about every 15-20 mins with diarrhea last night (he was bad on Sunday, much better Mon and Tues but it came back yesterday). Seems there are some pretty nasty bugs atm.

All mine are eating is plain boiled rice, grated apple and water.

with these bugs its best to just give as plain as possible, rice should be ok, maybe even something like a donut without the jam, but just give it to her a little bit at a time.

Well, the rice wasn't really that popular, she had about a teaspoonful of it, it stayed down though.
She slept a bit at lunchtime and after that was really tired and lethargic.
I was really worried that she might suffer from dehydration as she felt a bit hot as well (temperature was only 37.4 though) so I got the doctor to phone me.
She said that the chances of her being dehydrated were very slim as it hasn't been long enough. She also said that as long as she keeps sipping water/squash and keeps it down she should be ok, but probably just tired because hasn't eaten anything for 2 days.
Dd is so active normally it hurts to see her like this.

Plain crisps can be good at times like this (mad as it sounds).
