thrush? eczema? dd has had horrible nappy rash for a while. and now has a bit of eczema around mouth, may be unrelated. i was given timodine for her nappy rash but it still comes back when i stop using it. Only thing that works is nappy off for us. Shame about the carpet.

can you get thrush round your mouth? i can't see anything inside
we have got thrush treatment for nappy area as a sort of 'let's try it' thing
no improvement so far

what does eczema look like?

eczema usually red patches, not spotty, can get raw, is itchy. i don't know if my dd's rash around mouth related to nappy rash - i was thinking hers had started as a result of sucking rusks and stuff. food and saliva around mouth. seemed to co incide for us anyway.

ah
has just started sucking food such as cucumber, carrot
nappy rash predates that
but yes lots of saliva plus food on chin

oh dear, he seems to have rather sensitive skin - ds1 did not, so this is new

rash in both cases is tiny red spots
plus bright red skin around penis - not raw or apparently that painful - but bright red and we can't seem to soothe it by any usual means

re: nappy rash... close your eyes and rub your fingers lightly over the rash. Does it feel raised and bumpy? If so, it is thrush and will clear up in a day or two with canestan (make sure you tell the pharmacist it is for a baby)

re: rash on chin... if he's dribbling loads, that's probably what's causing this, you can slaver a load of vaseline on his chin to act as a barrier.

How are you doing? Tis nice to see you posting, I hardly get on here nowadays and I miss seeing how everyone is

Ds2 often gets sore excema type patches on his bottom and mouth. They are sort of angry bumpy dry patches and if you look closely they seem cracked.

I used neal's yard baby balm on it and it seemed to help. They can have sore chins when they're very dribbly too. Might be a coincidence his bottom is sore too though of course teething causes both.

It's so hard to know isn't it!

hello squonk, we are well, apart from this!
thank you that is v helpful
nappy rash is mostly the redness rather than spots, but i will check that later
we could only think of thrush after trying to treat for weeks! hv didn't seem to know what it is. have some cream but still no improvement

thanks for replies have been googling eg measles
like you do

and, as guadalupe quite rightly points out, nappy rash can be brought on/exacerbated by teething...

Good to see you're all doing well (apart from this, obviously) and stop blardy googling, woman!

I would say teething.

DS1 got TERRIBLE nappy rash every time he cut a tooth (here in France they say it goes to their bottom or to their ears ie ear infection or nappy rash).

They sound related to me.

Only thing that fixed this for us was nappy free time OR a muslin cloth soaked in chamomile tea and honey used as a nappy.

ok not rough patches
skin above penis bright red, smooth, a real mystery to shift it
round bottom a bit spotty, sore, usual nappy rash
chin just started today - an sure it will be weaning - seems obvious now but hadn't occured to me
