Help DD (11) got a migraine and its BAAAAAD

DD is currently in bed sobbing her heart out with a migraine, she feels sick with it but hasn't been sick yet.

This is the 2nd migraine within a month, GP prescribed something to take when onset which she did but sadly it hasn't done bugger all (or doesn't seem to have done).

Any ideas to ease the pain? anything for her?

Currently also trying to look after DS (5) and nephew (3) so bit manic!

Thank you

She is currently in her bedroom with curtains shut, she has cold flannel as well as that was helping.

TBH doubt anyone will come up with anything I don't know (as DH and I used to suffer from them) hoping someone got a miracle cure!!!

The doctor suggested she went onto the pill if these tablets didn't work, I don't want my 11 year old on the contraceptive pill

Think the tablets must have worked! DD wasn't sick and has just appeared and said headache pretty much gone - just got fuzzy head now phew

Your doctor suggested the contraceptive pill for migraines?

WTF!

I would get a second opinion on that one. I was always told by both GPs and specialists that the pill was pretty much a no-no for migraine sufferers.

I'm a bit late in adding to your post but as a migraine sufferer who started at around this age, do push your doctor to give her relevant pills, certainly not the contraceptive pill. There are quite a few different makes, not sure which age they can be used at but my mum used to just let me suffer and it was horrendous. As an adult, i now control them with migraleve bought over the counter.
Total darkness in bed is best, try to sleep through it and she will probably wake up feeling like she has a hangover.

Eh? The pill for migraines? Is your GP from planet bonkers? If they happen a lot, then get a referral to a paediatric neurologist - they specialise in migraines. My migraines started around age 10ish. Might be worth seeing if there are any trigger factors? Chocolate triggered mine

I thought suffering migraines was a contra-indication for taking the pill???

I am sure that is one of the questions you are asked before they prescribe it?

I always fine that a big glass of water and 2 paracetamol when the migraine is comming on and sit in a dark room helps no end.

Sounds like she needs to get back to the GP's.

Hope she feels better soon.
