Lactose intolerance after tummy bug?

My DD had a tummy bug 12 days ago. She got over the sickness quite quickly, but she still has diarrhoea. She seems generally well in herself and is eating, but she is still getting tummy cramps and diarrhoea. I'm now wondering if she has developed a temporary lactose intolerance? If so, how do I handle it? She's a very fussy eater and I rely on formula to help get a bit of nutrition into her. But from what I gather, I need to give her a break from dairy. She is 17 months. Does anyone have any advice pls? Thanks

I had the same with my 18 month old few weeks back....his bowel movements never been normal but not too alarming....we went Spain and had loose motions for 3 weeks they thought tummy bug but samples come back clear.....I put him on dairy free milk and what a diff it made to be told maybe lactose intolerant.....but later found out you loose weight and growth slows if lactose intolerant but maybe allergic to something in dairy milk and formula.... You can purchase soya formulas but they don't come cheap and so I stayed on soya and weeks later his motions are still good. Speak with dr to see what could be causing it.. All the best

Thanks all.

I got her some Aptamil lactose free yesterday. She was happy to drink it too (I thought she wouldn't as she can be v fussy!)

Her poos seem a lot better today, so it could be the milk change. I'll use it for another few days and then I'll put her back on normal Aptamil.

Gemmer some babies are sensitive to cows milk protein- could this be what your DS has? My first Dd had this. We put her on a hydrolysed formula and she improved. I think a general intolerance to lactose is quite rare, but some people can develop a temporary intolerance to lactose after a tummy bug.
