I have a 14 month old son, in the past month he has had tummy bugs with diaorrea and slight fever, some vomiting but I think this may be due to the amount of water and juice he was having and wasn't eating much at the time. His appetite has been ok,but this week he has another bug with really bad diaorrea, took him to the doc and she checked him over and everything was ok,just a slight fever. But I look at him and its like he has lost a lot of weight and I am a bit worried,he is eating but not as much. He drinks plenty , I give him water juice and cows milk but I'm wondering wether or not to start giving him growing up milk again just to supplement him a bit more? I give him plenty of fresh veg and fruit but he just turns away from it at the moment :( I'm just a bit worried and am going to take him to the baby clinic at my GPs tomorrow.

This must be so worrying. I'd stay away from the formula as the extra iron could make him constipated which in turn could actually make him eat less. Vitamins might be a better option Smile

Agree that he needs weighing and you need to make sure they record it in his red book. If he is loosing weight it's good to have a baseline. I'd make sure they measure and record how tall he is and his head circumference too.

If he likes drinking, could you try mixing a banana, a few strawberries and some milk into a smoothie? Could you just let him eat what he wants for a couple of days?

If he's having regular tummy upsets, have you thought about food intolerances?

Thanks, yes I had a feeling it may be eggs, he loves a boiled egg mashed up. I'll be sure to ask the HV for an allergy test just in case. I'll try the smoothie idea I think he might like that. I have been giving him some buscuit and crackers which he loves,he's also had some chocolate and milkshake, he is already quite small but after the bug I could feel the weight difference and have been so worried incase its something underlying as his father has a lot of problems with stomach ulcers and indigestion ,probably worth mentioning to the doctor too and il see what happens. Its just so horrible seeing them unwell then losing weight :(

How did you go on today Em? Was your HV helpful at all? I'm sure he will be back to his normal self soon Smile

Forgot to mention, try to avoid whole wheat things while he's like this and can you try him with high fat foods like avocado and salmon and try adding olive oil or mascarpone to as much of his food as you can, or even cream. Ready brek with added cream and some sultanas should help to set him up for the day Smile

Is he getting out much? A couple of doses of Vitamin D each day in the form of sunshine should help too Smile
