DS has sudden bad rash advice please

DS was down watching tv after bedtime with us & suddenly started complaining of sore itchy skin. He has a huge patch of raw red rash on his behind & another large patch back of arm. His back started to look a little bumpy like a nettle sting. I did the glass test (using thumb pressure) as he was v agitated it looks ok. Gave him zirtek & calpol put on sudocream & he's now asleep. I'll check him in a while. No temperature.

Could it be a sudden allergic reaction ? He was out and about today in playgrounds gardens etc. he has no allergies that I know of he did have a reaction like this when he was under 1 after his first try of chocolate though and he had chocolate tonight but he has also had lots of chocolate during the 7 years in between.

Any advice would be grateful...

It does sound like an allergic reaction...have you any antihistamines? I would keep a close eye on him generally tonight but as he's well with no temp I don't think you need to rush off but do watch him tonight.

Have you changed your washing powder?

DS sometimes gets an unexplained allergic rash. He recently had a rash associated with a V&D virus, that was coming and going. Eventually I took pictures to show to the doctor, so it couldn't just disappear, again!

When he gets it, I usually give him piriton, and put aloe gel on the rash to soothe it. We try to work out what has caused it each time, but there's not usually anything obvious.

Google images of urticaria (allergic rash/hives) to see if it's that.

Thank you what is v and d virus ? He seems ok now no worse. Zirtek has anti histamine so will prob knock him out for a while too. I'll keep an ear out for him anyway he did say earlier he felt sick but then went to sleep.

Sounds like shingles. Is it just on one side of his body? My son had this earlier this year, I was gobsmacked as I didn't know little kids got it! On J it looked like chicken pox spots but clustered very closely together. GP or OOH would be able to confirm.

It sounds like the rash my ds had. It suddenly appeared on one side of his face and on his chest. I gave him some piriton and it slowly went down. He got it again the next day so I gave him piriton again and he's never had it again.

I googled rashes the first time he got it and it looked exactly the same as hives which are caused by an allergic reaction. I don't know what caused it in my ds as he hadn't eaten anything new, I think he'd had spaghetti bolognese which is his favourite, and no new washing powder or shower gel. He's had spaghetti bolognese lots of times since and not had the rash again.
