Having a PFB moment re: rolling in bath and dry drowning!!

Just need some reassurance!!

My DS (5 months) has learnt to roll. Been watching him like a hawk and tonight in the bath I held him in case he rolled. He did and still managed to roll out of my hands and head went under the water. Pulled him out, red face and it took him a few seconds (felt like forever) to catch his breath and then lots of crying and needed lots of cuddles to calm down.

He has now fed and is asleep on me.

Anyway, a few weeks ago I read an article about dry drowning and now I am paranoid he may have inhaled some water and this will happen to him.

Please tell me I am having a PBF moment or do I need to give nhs direct a ring??

Has he been under water before, e.g in the swimming pool? If not, it was probably the shock of having water in his face like that which made him hold his breath. Plus babies under 6 months generally still have the reflex that make them hold their breath under water. I'm sure he'll be fine. Mine went under the water all the time in the bath. In fact I feared that I nearly did drown DD aged around 3 weeks when I rolled her onto her front in my arms to wash her back and forgot she couldn't support her head. Mid-wash DH helpfully pointed out that DDs face was well and truly in the water. She held her breath beautifully!

He'll be fine. Babies have a reflex that makes them hold their breath under water. My 22mo has lost hers and you can tell when swimming, there's a lot more coughing and spluttering.

She has been dropped in water every week since 6 weeks old and she's fine. So will your son

No he hasn't. So was his first time under water Pleased to hear about the breathing reflex. That might have been why it took him a few seconds to catch his breath if they automatically hold their breath under water.
