Huuuuge bogies

My DS (nearly 3) has started to sound a bit sniffly at night and ends up with absolutely huge bogies in the morning - once I manage to prize them out (usually a quick bath and hair wash loosens them), all is well. I mentioned to health visitor who suggested saline drops before bed but the pharmacist wouldn't sell them to me.
He said because my DS has a 'flat nose and profile', he needs to see the GP about these bogies. :(
Now this has me panicked! Poor DS has paediatrics on Monday for growth (although between the dietician and myself, we've got him putting weight on again) and is on the list for a multi disciplinary.
I just thought he might be a bit hayfevery or something - not that he 'has a flat nose and profile'.
Has anybody else had a DC with huge bogies like mine?

Baby ds2 (5mths) has huge bogies and so does ds1 actually. Dd never has bogies but the boys have the same shaped nose. Weird. I can't see why it would be a problem though?
