Leg pain and limp - unexplained. 3 yo

I posted a while ago about dd (3) who woke up unable to walk a few weeks ago. Her right knee was agony if she tried to weight bear for about 6 hours. Docs at A&E concluded just a one off thing.

Today though it happened again - not as bad she could walk but with a noticeable limp (again right knee) and couldn't walk up stairs etc because couldn't put all her weight on that leg iyswim .

GP has referred us to paed orthopaedics for a few weeks time.

Am worried though, does anyone have any experience of this? Again today the pain / limp seemed to ease off as the day wore on.

She is very active and it's hard because I don't want her damaging herself. Have told her no trampoline for example and she's devastated.

Irritable hip? Has it has happened again I would go back to your GP while she has it? How is it today? Video the limping if you can & try & get seen today/tomorrow. If it causing a lot of pain/unable to walk properly you could go back to A&E.

Sorry my first post did not offer much help. My youngest son started limping & had uneven creases & it was diagnosed as an underdeveloped hip joint (mild) in one side, only picked up at 18months. He had an X ray & dye injected under general anaesthetic & it needed no further treatment. The limping stopped, on occasion he walks on his tip toes, but the consultant felt this was unrelated, he will have a follow up x ray to check it is still all fine. But I watch his walking gait, running style for any changes.

I hope the appointment goes well in a few weeks.

Although the pain is coming from her knee it could be differed from feet or hip? Is she flat footed as that can cause knee pain? Although not the weather, good boots will help keep alignment or shoes that are not flat.

Thanks for the info. She walks ok, had hip scan at birth but did have talipes.

Has she had any viral illnesses lately? Transient synovitis (sp?) can actually be in the hip but seem to affect lower joints, with DS I was sure he had hurt his ankle. The only other symptoms he had was a runny nose, bit of a cough and barely raised temperature. He had to have some blood tests to check all was ok and a "just in case" antibiotic but it cleared in about a week.

Is there any redness or swelling of the knee or ankle? Knee pain often referred pain so I'd look at her feet, ankles and hip too. Have a look how she is walking.

Check her shoes. DD had a sudden unexplained limp as a toddler- emergency paediatric orthopaedic appointment, x rays the lot. A few weeks later she was chattering away ' 'and then I gave Daisy my shoe and she gave me hers'
