Hygienist treatment for children

At what age did your children start getting a scale and polish at the dentist? I am taking DC (9) tomorrow and it has occurred to me that he has not really had much treatment from the dentist at all, despite going since he was 2. So no fluoride, sealants, xrays, nada. I'm not sure why this is but I plan to question them before I take my business elsewhere.

My dentist says they dont offer them until adult age e.g. 16. DD (10) and DS (7) got fissure sealants last week. I dont think x-rays would be needed unless there were any issues

My DDs have had a little polish since the age of about 4 1/2. DD 7 had a bit of a scale and polish last time she went as she had a build up behind her front bottom teeth. Definitely ask.

If your child's teeth are healthy and free of deposits then there is no need for any treatment. Polishing teeth with abrasive paste can cause unnecessary wear and tear so is no longer encouraged. The hard work and prevention of dental disease is better done at home every day rather than once every 6 months by a dentist. If your dentist is worried about cleaning or diet I'm sure they will let you know. But do ask.
